How to reduce shimmering with ati 9800 pro 128mb video card

Featured Replies

Should temporal AA be on in the card settings and should the aperture size be on 64 or 128mb??Is the shimmering found on trees towers planes buildings terrain just bad fs9 coding?? (directx)Is it the monitor or the video card sucks? Is the hard drive not fast enough yet for fs9?My mip map setting is at 4 in the sim.Any advice of what to try please i'm going crazy with all these sleepless nights trying to figure it out. Thanks guys!

There's really nothing you can do - it's the way the FS engine handles mipmaps and anisotropic filtering. I've found setting the card to 4X/8X comes closest to eliminating it, but until MS revamps the engine, there's gonna be some amount of shimmering present.

Temporal AA makes the thing worse! That can be clearly seen in the preview windows of the "select an airplane" and "create a flight" dialogue boxes. At least on my system and with the catalyst drivers I have installed (can't remember the version)sys specsP4 2.4 Ghz512 DDR SDRWin XP Pro SP2ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB Wolfgang

Joe,Check out the following tweaking guide as well as the tweaks in the hardware forum: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html. At the end it has some troubleshooting hints you can try. I have temporal AA checked and I have excellent graphics/FPS (it didn't reduce anything). Hope this helps.JimP4 3.6Ghz w/1Gig of DDR2 RAMRadeon X800XT PCIe video card

Im going to try a few things, but can anyone confirm that its not related to anything else like hard drive or monitor resolution. That way i wont go throw money on them.To be more specific the back of taxiway signs flash shimmer and building rooftops all trees and towers.

I'm with tabs up above. FS9 has done this since day one, doesn't matter what drivers or card you have. We all experience it to some degree. I have a 9800 too and see the same thing. Its the sim. Until we get a better engine for rendering things like weather and terrain textures we have to live with it.Hornit

Increasing the monitor resoluton has fixed about 90% of it here.
