December 16, 200520 yr I just bought a 1800xt, i had a 850PE, i dont see any inprovement at all in FS9, infact FPS is much slower now in FS9. But with newer games the improvement is very much noticeable. In 3dmark05 i went from 6400 to 8400 with the xt1800 so it does it things apparently, but not in FS9. Anyone else experience this.OHN

At higher res settings you can select certain AA modes but the card wont really be using it because there is not enough buffer space to do the work, but the card with more (512) will so...you will not be looking at apples to apples
December 19, 200520 yr well what do you expect, the game is now over 2 years old, thats like a zillion years in software terms, its all old code so you wont see much gains from new hardware. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
December 19, 200520 yr Commercial Member >well what do you expect, the game is now over 2 years old,>thats like a zillion years in software terms, its all old>code so you wont see much gains from new hardware. That's not the reason why. FS is a CPU limited game - the only thing that will increase your framerates above a certain level is CPU speed, not the videocard... December 19, 200520 yr >well what do you expect, the game is now over 2 years old,>thats like a zillion years in software terms, its all old>code so you wont see much gains from new hardware. What Do I expect? As it is FS9, I expect that a much more powerful/faster card will allow the frames to be rendered as fast as the CPU & memory subsystem can send the data along without taking such a FPS hit when I choose high IQ settings (filtering) >vs.:)What unfortunately we can't expect is that we will get better filtering because niether ATI or NV is giving it to us and with the power of todays cards that is pathetic. December 19, 200520 yr well what i cant understand is why xplane is so smooth compared to MSFSwhen the day i see MSFS as smooth as Xplane i will be in heaven! I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
December 19, 200520 yr Hi OHN,as I told in Hyperthreading thread, I bought a new system these days. I also bought a X1800 XT. I also didn't experience a recognizable improvement in fps. It should be better since my cpu is not only slightly bigger (3,0 before, now 3,4) but also with better architecture (before Northwood with 512kb Cache, now Prescott with 2Mb Cache). The same with the mainboard and RAM.Actually I also think, the performance is slightly worse than it was before (same FS-Config and Addons, new/formatted FS-partition) I have to tweak around a little and find (maybe) THE little switch which makes my new system running like god. But so far I didn't find it... ;-)I'm hoping for new/better drivers from ATI.Maybe we should keep each other up to date!!!!Regards, Roger
December 19, 200520 yr Author Yes i also hope that the bad performance im seeing can be cured with a better driver hopefully soon. And yes good idea keeping each other updated on this, ill post here if i find something to up the performance on the card.OHN
December 20, 200520 yr Author This is bad, this card is useless with FS9, but it shines with every other game i have. I get FPS less than 10 sometimes in heavy clouds..lol, even my 6800GT can do better than that. I even overclocked it to 700/800 with no better performance in FS9. Im thinking of taking it back to the store, because somethings not right here, sometimes the GPU sets it self to 475mhz when using ATI tools to see temps and clock settings, i can see no change in 3Dmark05 when overclocking so either the card or ATI tools are not working properly.OHN
December 20, 200520 yr Ryan Maziarz (KTUS) a note from fellow simmer in Tucson, have tried to get a sim group here to share ideas and new equipment thoughts, any others here give me a note B42L8
December 20, 200520 yr Hi OHN,nothing new from my side. I overclocked too - to the absolute maximum. The card handels it perfekt but there is no improvement in performance. I'm pretty sure the driver just needs some optimizations for the 1800 and the FS. But ATI does not show ANY email adresse on their website. They want you to register before having the honor to contact them. Bah. I hate to spread my personal data everywhere... And I don't want to admit to myself (so far) that the x1800xt sucks.Regards, Roger
