Emagin Z800 Visor and FS9 - The good, the bad and the ugly!

Featured Replies

I've had my Emagin Z800 3d visor for a couple of weeks now and I'm settling into them quite well. The GoodWow. What can I say. FS9 in 3d with these glasses is outstanding. No dark screens and no ghosting. Just fantastic viewing. Flying areas such as Yosemite NP, Grand Canyon or Alaska is simply awesome. The BadWhilst the visor is suggested for normal desktop work, it's not really something I'd like to do. In addition, when using FS9, I needed to avoid rolling my head too much (such as when banking) as this sometimes lead to a feeling of nausea. The headset is comfortable for a reasonable length of time but after a while it is nice to take it off again. No problem for me as I like shortish flights. The UglyThis thing is expensive, very expensive, and for those of us "lucky" enough to live in the EU even more so. Emagin charge US$100 more for the European version of the visor (normally US$899) and don't expect to be able to get the US version from them, they won't sell it to you. I'm running a long list of favours for my wife now! Mr Customs gets his share as well when importing. On balance though, I am very pleased with the visor. It gives a whole new depth to FS9 and flying with it is great.
