I need your advise for a new video card

Featured Replies

I have to replace my old ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128MB, due to overheating.Since I will probably buy a whole new system incl. a high end video card in a few months, the replacement card I'm looking for now does not have to be a high end card it should only match the performance of my old Radeon 9800.Since they don't sell the Radeon 9800 any more where I live, I ask you what alternative AGP card, either Radeon od Nvida, which matches the performance of my old card, can you suggest?I will need the card only for FS2004, because I will only upgrade to FSX after I have bought my completely new system.BTW I will also post this in the PC/MAC hardware for simulators forum. Thanks in advance for your help!WolfgangMy rough sys specsPentium 4, 2.4 GHZ1024 MB RAMWindows XP Pro

Check out the ATI x800 AGP. It was a brilliant upgrade for me over my previous Leadtek 6600GT AGP card. I have the same spec machine as you though I am currently testing an Athlon64 3500+ system that I have built. The Palit x800GTO AGP card made both FSx demo and medieval total war 2 demo playable compared to the 6600GT on my p4 2.4 ghz system. The antialiasing and general image quality seems somewhat better than that of the 6600GT also.BTW both the 6600GT and x800 are not too bad in the new AMD system so think about upgrading the board and processor. I bought a Gigabyte GA-k8ns-ultra 939 which allows me to use my old ddr400 ram and agp cards. I only really had to get a socket 939 Athlon64 as well and some more DDR400 ram. The GA-k8ns-ultra 939 board can take advanced dual core socket 939 AMD cpus providing that you can get them in the socket 939 format which has basically been discontinued (so I understand).I can get up to 20-50 fps in the FSX demo with most sliders on medium settings using my AMD system which I have just built. With the P4 and x800gto about 15-30 fps.Hope this helps.Don.
