December 9, 200619 yr am new to this forum and have not simmed for 15 years. I have what might be a really stupid question. I am about to configure a new computer and on the back of the Radeon 1600/256 display box they show 2 different screens, one on top of another, with the panel on the lower screen and scenery on the upper. can FSX really be configured that way if I don't have the room for side by side monitors?? also if I want to spend about $250 for a video card is the Radeon 1600 the best way to go?thanks for any infomarty
December 10, 200619 yr Hi Marty, welcome back the flight sim world. There are several different ways to configure for dual or triple monitors. I personally use the VC on my 24" and use the second for guages, GPS etc. I have tried what you described, but didn't like not being able to pan my view. If you plan on spanning views, you might consider the TripleHead2GO (do a search and you will find plenty of info), or Nvidia allows view spanning with their boards, much better than ATI. I think you can do much better than a ATI 1600 for $250.00. I just saw a 7900GT for 199.99 after rebate, which would toast the 1600. With the new DX10 cards coming out, the once top-o-the-line boards are dropping in price fast.I would try to compare price vs. performance by searching for cards in your price range (pricegrabber or something) then doing the performance comparisons here: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html.You should get a nice board for that kind of money. If you're planning to run FSX, you might want to wait for prices to drop on DX10 boards. JMHO, Hope it helps.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B.
