December 12, 200619 yr GreetingsI purchased a second gig of memory after reading some posts here to use with my FSX. I'm enjoying FSX with sliders half to full and an average of 15-20 fps in most areas. My question is, why does over 1 gig of physical memory remain free throughout a flight in FSX? The second gig of memory I bought seems to have never been used yet.According to Task Manager and a free program I use called WinCleaner:95-99% of the CPU is in use most of the timeVirtual MemoryFree: 2,493Total: 3,936Physical MemoryFree: 1,349,972Total: 2,095,196Used: 35%Obviously, these figures were dynamic throughout the flight, but the Free Physical Memory NEVER dropped below 51%Is there a way to force FSX to use the available 65% of physical memory? Any other suggestions on how to use this memory that I purchased?I've attached a screenshot of the WinCleaner numbers while FSX is running. My Computer:P4 3.22 gig ram2 sata hdati X850XT PE 256mFSX DeluxeThanks for the help.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162985.jpg
December 13, 200619 yr Don't know what your settings are but checking with MemStatus I have had as high as 1.6 gigs being used. You musn't have your settings on very high particularly if your fps is what you indicate.Try an experiment. Go do some bush flying. Put all your Scenery settings to the right including autogen. Well level of detail you can keep at medium. Start out in the water. Real weather. I'll get 10-15 fps in the water but going up over autogen around 10 fps fairly steady. Then check your memory. Report back.P4 3.6 GHz 800 MHz fsb HT, 2 gig ddrII ram, X800XT 256mb PCIe video
December 13, 200619 yr same situation with me, id like to know the answer to this. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
December 13, 200619 yr Thanks, Len. I'm going to try this in the next couple of days and report. I also downloaded memstatus to see if the numbers are consistent.Paul
December 14, 200619 yr Well, I worked on this some more last night. Using memstatus, FS was using ~65% of the 2 gig, which is what I would expect. Then I pulled up Wincleaner and it too was now reporting that ~65% of memory was being used. I changed nothing, so I have no idea why I was getting the readings I was during the first test.Rivatuner reports that I'm using no more than 130m of a 256m graphics card (ati xt850xt pe). The processor is maxing out most of the time, so this is clearly my bottleneck.Len - thanks for the tips - I'm scratching my head about the different numbers on different days.Paul
