Need new monitor ASAP

Featured Replies

Hey guys, my 21" CRT finally burned out after years of great service. I now desperately need a new monitor for FS9 and FSX. I was thinking this would be a good time to go LCD but I'm very concerned about the whole ghosting issue with LCDs. I currently have an XFX 7800GS AGP Extreme video card. What would you guys recommend for a good LCD and is the whole ghosting issue a major concern in FS9 and FSX? Thank you.

Most of the modern LCD's do not have ghosting issues. Make sure the Monitor Response Time is Less than or equal to 8ms.How much are you willing to spend? Are you ready to go Triple Matrox 3 X 19" or a single 24" widescreen? Dell 24" is a good monitorThere is a good Samsung here too.http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....&SubCategory=20One Primary difference between your CRT monitor and LCD is...CRT monitors can work with different resolution. It does not have a native resolution as such. The LCD all have a native resolution. It may work with other resolution but they are of poor quality. So take a look at the resolution of the LCDs that you are considering and consider that your fixed resolution. For the most part... they I have no issue with it. But some folks may have an issue. I think the dell is a lil expensive for me and the 16ms timing is not the greatest. I also never run FS9 or FSX beyond 1280x960 and only use 1 monitor. What do you think of these? I have not used either of them. I have seen them though. I like the looks of that Samsung. and I am also partial to widescreen. The only thing with some Samsung is, I think.. it don't look too good from off center position. Not sure if this particular model suffers from that. I have also seen another post here where someone complained about that. Before you mail order it, it maybe worth visiting a store where you live. I know Frys electronics carries both of them. You may want to call a few stores and ask them if they carry either the Samsung or the Viewsonic and check it out for yourself.Manny

I replaced my dead CRT monitor about a year ago with a ViewSonic VX924. It appears that the 922 has similar specs. I have been very pleased with my 924. Good resolution, good color and no gosting. It works great with FS9 and other applications. I agree with Manny. You should check them out at a computer store. I purchased my 924 at CompUSA.Dan

I have the Viewsonic 922 and I'm very happy with it, very little image lag and no dead pixels. This Is my first LCD screen after my 22" CRT packed in, My first impression using the 922 was how clean and sharp everything looked even right into corners of the screen.John

Ok guys I just picked up a Samsung 225BW wide screen LCD. FS9 and FSX look great however I have a problem with FSX. I cannot raise the resolution higher than 1024x768. I choose 1280x960 which is the same resolution as my desktop, I click OK, it returns me back to FSX but I see that the resolution has not changed and when I go back into display settings I see that it's still set to 1024x768. Any idea as to what's goin on here? Thank you.

Did you delete the FSX.cfg or FS9.cfg or atleast the section [Display]?Try that.BTW.. your display might be displaying right no matter what it says in FSX/FS9.I have tried changing the resolution in FS9/FSX but it always uses the Windows resolution no matter what I set in FS9 or FSX (Not sure which one had this non issue). BTW.. I use the 24" Dell widescreen. So you might be OK too...as is. Manny

LG 19" widescreen is my first LCD.I am getting used to the 'wider' cockpit, and I agree it seems to be stuck at what it says is best resolution.Still, getting used to it.

I am now able to select resolutions above 1024x768 in FS9 and FSX. I would like to know though how the AGP aperture cause this problem because I've never had this issue before when I was using my old ATI 9800 PRO 128mb. Thank you for the help though.
