Multi Monitor Behaviour

Recommended Posts

When FSX starts in full-screen mode on a setup with two monitors connected to the same graphics card, it blanks the second screen. This is presumably to allow child windows to be dragged to the second monitor (which works very well). My question is, can this second monitor blanking be controlled (enabled/disabled) to allow displaying other, non-FSX windows?I was unable to find any mention of this here or on various web searches...so maybe this is a behavious due to my particular hardware setup???Appreciate any help you might have...Regards,blaster

Hello,The only way I have been able to work around this is by placing the second monitor to a second V card, Then lastly my 3rd monitor to my third V card. My specs below are what I usually run but experimented with my ATI and the two pci cards. Also set up withonly two monitors and ran on two v cards (the ATI, AGP to monitor one) and (the PCI for monitor two). Bottom line I was not able to use the second ou t of the main V card to run the second monitor as you where discussing. Please beware that I am real amature compared to the rest of you here. However the two and three monitor set up especially the two monitors on one AGP (two outs) and two monitors on the AGP (monitor one) and the second monitor on the second V-Card (PCI) ((two monitors on two seperate Vcards did show up as you where trying to achive. I really cannont pinpoint any thing specifically that I changed. Some folks around here have been real nice in attempts to help me with other issues and its been much appreciated. Thus, I will keep playing around with the hardware I have along with ID's on drivers (assuming that might help) I report back if I see anything that may of be any help. My way of a small repay of many I hope to repay back from the kind help recived with my questions. Hello,I do not use Full mode in FSX anymore, too many problems. I use window mode only , for the moment. I will retest after the FSX patch (if an FSX patch is coming!).

I also have a "challenge" with FSX and multi-monitors.I use a digital projector for my main image and the 19" LCD monitor for porting out various windows (FSNav for moving map, overhead etc). This works fine with FS9 but having just installed and tweaked FSX to my satifaction and producing reasonably good fps I then tried to utilise the projector and second screen/monitor.As there is no FSNav (yet) for FSX I tried to move the GPS to the monitor screen. The porting out went OK but the resultant image is dreadful - flickering and jumping about and what I would describe as "noise" over the image! It is the same result with whatever window is moved to the second screen.I am using the latest nVidia driver 93.71.System is Asus 8v Deluxe Mobo, AMD64 3500+, 1Gb DDRAM, XFX nVidia 6600GT_256Mb, 2 x 160Gb HDD (one exclusively for FS), Iilyama 19" LCD, InFocus X2 projector. All suggestions welcome.Thanks.Ken Hall,York, UK.

Thanks for the replies!I use a small touch screen and a program called TouchBuddy (http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/) to send commands to FSX. Usually, I run this over my network in client-server mode (FSX on one system and TouchBuddy on another)...when experimenting with this in local mode (only one system), the touch screen blanks and is unusable for other applications.I was hoping this was buried in one of the many config files in FSX but I guess I'm out of luck :( I'll look at a separate PCI video card to see if there's a solution there. I tried upgrading to the beta nvidia drivers but see no difference...it's clear that FSX is "taking over" the second monitor since you can still drag FSX windows to it.Appreciate all the assistance and sorry for posting this in the general FSX forum...I assumed this was an FSX config issue and not a hardware issue...ahh well :)Regards,Blaster

Jim, I just strted messing with FSX, so maybe I will get an answerin time but maybe you can shorted the learning curve............two questions (for now) 1. An artucke by Ryan Maziarz gave a bunch of tweeks that he has done, they involve the fsx.cfg file, I have done searches but it does not show up as detailed, Is this a hidden file??........2. I have two 24" CRT monitors (1600x1200)and X1900 ATI card, is there a way to extend the screen across two monitors, without elongating everything, similar to the 3 monitor gadjet???.....zlxo did the AS6 upgrade, does that mean I can start FSX and then AS just like in FS9??..........thanks, am sure that other questions will arise as I use it more, too bad we can't get a local club here in Tucson so we could bounce these kind of questions, regards B42L8

Hi Dick,1. Yes, FSX.cfg is hidden just as FS9.cfg is hidden.2. Not sure because I extend my desktop.3. Yes, the same way!4. Email or forums are OK, I couldn't make it from outside of Detroit!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Everything rock steady.A case of the obvious being overlooked in my enthusiasm to start using FSX? I had cause to re-load my driver (93.71) and had forgotten to set up the AA and AF setting so, of course, everything had defaulted to control by the Sim.Easy when you know how!!!Thanks again - I shall post your response and correct procedure onto a couple of other forums where I had posted the question but had either NO or spurious comments.Best regards,
