Easy OC build that runs FSX very well

I'm a NooB at system building, but this was easy and fast. I'm running most of the sliders as high as they will go in FSX and the system does not stutter and frame rates are the best I've ever had on any system, running any version of MSFS except maybe the pre windows FS4. Candidly, I've got everything maxed except for the stuff I don't want to see (too much autogen scenery and traffic is not realistic to me).EVGA 680I motherboard (P24 BIOS)EVGA 8800 GTSOCZ DDR2 800Intel E6600Corsair 620PSUZalman CNPS9700Seagate 320GB 7200.10 in Raid 0Coolermaster MystiqueWindows Vista UltimateFSX is very processor dependent. Not so much the graphics card (sorry that sounds Borat speak) Tests with 8800GTX's in SLI have revealed no improvement in frame rates. So why spend $3,000 when $1,800 works better? The trick that works is to link memory to the Front Side Bus speed. Put the stress on your Intel Core 2 Duo (it can take it). The NVidia 680 boards are certified for 1333. They will go a lot faster. The easy part is that slowing the memory down makes the overclock a no brainer and when you have your Core 2 Duo working with a higher FSB your memory is back to about its' limiting speed anyway. This method of overclocking works very well with FSX.http://www.evga.com/community/messageboard...?TOPIC_ID=25883With my system I have not hit any limits yet, hasn't failed to boot, or crashed once no matter where I've set the speeds. 3.4GHz is as fast as I've gone ON STOCK VOLTAGES and at 3.15 my memory is running at 700 DDR2 with 4-4-4-12 1T timings. Temps are 2 to 4 degrees higher. If you are building a new system and you want to be sure FSX runs well, this is a solid list that you should be able to duplicate excellent results on without breaking the bank. If shopping, NewEgg gets your your orders faster than their competition and has better service. I ordered the power supply from ZipZoom to save $20 and waiting for their shipping delayed the build by T W O W E E K S!

Getting rid of autogens is not the solution to the problem. The real solution is to use more than one core for the simulation and rendering. BTW. I just built a system like yours except that I used GTX card. What load condition are you under when you measure the temps?

When you say the memory is at 700, is that MHz? Why not run the memory at 800 MHz? Is it going slower because of the way you have overclocked the system?3.15 V is awfully high for the memory isn't it?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180
