After upgrading everything else in the house, I have a unit left over that contains a bad 478 socket motherboard, but with a good new Pentium 4 1.2 CPU.I am thinking of purchasing an inexpensive motherboard to get this thing going again too. In looking at motherboards, I see that many are listed as "Pentium Prescott" capable. On other sites, the "Prescott" reference may be missing. My question is, will my non Prescott, Pentium 4 CPU work in these socket 478 motherboards or are the boards unique only to Penitium 4 Prescott applications?A little input for my ignorance on this subject would be appreciated.ThanksRTH

Come on folks!All I am asking is if socket 478 motherboards will universally take both Pentium and Pentium Prescott CPU's (Socket 478 versions), or if they are unique motherboards for each CPU?I am not meaning to be a wise guy and realize that I can go through the routine of requesting info on each individual motherboard, but thought that some knowledgeable (of which there are many) individual would be able to answer this question. There are countless seller resources that supply text for either, and on other sites leave one or the other out. Throughely confusing in my book.Respectfully:RTH

The hardware forum is a pretty quiet neck of the AVSIM woods at the best of times, and even those of us that regularly haunt it don't know the answer to every hardware question. Please keep this in mind when posts like these go unanswered.Anyway, your best bet with older hardware is to find a motherboard manufacturer that differentiates between these processor types with the boards they sell and pick one of theirs. Try some of the major motherboard websites.Gary
