March 26, 200719 yr I bought the Dell 24 about a month ago and I'll certainly give it the thumbs up. I'm running at 1920 x 1200 and everything looks #### good.
March 28, 200719 yr I'd recommend you take a look at a 22" Widescreen before making your final decision. Prices have dropped dramatically, to the point where these monitors have actually become a very good value. For example, Newegg is selling the Acer AL2223Wd, which has an excellent 5 ms response time, for less than $275 including shipping. (You'd have to pay more than double that amount for a 24" widescreen.) The viewable height of a 22" widescreen is essentially the same as that of a standard 19" LCD, but obviously with much greater real estate in the horizontal axis. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050, which any recent video card should be able to support, with the latest gaming cards giving the best performance. I have read, but cannot confirm, that all 22" widescreens on the market today use an identical LCD screen that's being manufactured in China, with the various manufacturers installing their own electronics interface. At least two models (BenQ and Sceptre) come with HDMI inputs, if that's important to you. Available brands include Acer, BenQ, Chimei, NEC, Niko, LG, Samsung, Sceptre, and Viewsonic. Personally, I'd go for the BenQ FP222WH which has a decent stand, HDMI input, and a 3 year mfr parts/labor warranty. It's about $290. Some manufacturers skimp on the quality of the DVI cables they include with their monitors. If your DVI cable seems flimsy, or doesn't have shielding, go to a vendor such as monoprice.com and buy a quality cable for just a few bucks. Good luck with whatever monitor you choose!
