Unplayable graphics glitch - Vista, 8800 gtx

Featured Replies

Hello,I bought this game along with newly built system (8800 GTX, e6600 processor,P5N32-E mobo, Vista Ultimate, 2 gigs ram). The system is stable and I can play other games with it. When I try to run FSX though, I get a pulsating black and white screen that also shows the game every other second or so. It appears to be playable control wise, the graphics though are just a complete mess. I have tried several different driver versions, and also even installed DX10 after trying it with DX nine with no luck. Any ideas would be helpful thank you.

he already said he tried different drivers...Hmmmmmm, run DXDIAG and see if the spinning cube is messed up (graphically)Are your other games using Direct 3D or OpenGL etc?

Hmm there is no cube for me but all the information is there. As far as D3d and OpenGL I'm afraid I don't know. I play Medieval Total War 2 all right, and I have run 3-D Mark several times with no issues. But there is kind of a happy ending, I have found that by alt-entering I can fix the problem, but it still makes the game difficult to play because every time I change views the problem comes back.

Sorry I missed the part where you said you had tried different drivers. It was late last night when I replied. What kind of power supply do you have? For your 8800 GTX are the 2 6-pins pci-e connector independent or is it just 1 connector with a Y spliter?Radarbeam

So when you go to the Display tab and press the "Test Direct3D" button you don't see a spinning cube?Yeah maybe what he said.... about the psu connections

heynow21,No intention to rain on your parade here BUT...Vista at *best* is unstable, and FSX makes Vista look good. Nothing like paying premium prices for what's arguably beta software (and I've paid for both of 'em). You've got a decent rig there, you can get FS 2004 (FS9) for ~US $20.00 @ Amazon and others. You may want to stay with that for awhile. I run a Falcon built box, X6800/8800GTX, XP Pro SP2. FS9 runs great. When SP.x for both Vista and FSX come out *maybe* I'll do that deal again, for now I'm happy with XP and FS9.jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]

Welcome to the world of using bleeding edge equipment.Similar setup here: 8800GTS, Abit IN9-32Max (Nvidia 680i Chipset) motherboard and Xeon-3060 CPU.It's the video drivers mate. There is no fix as of yet.I rolled back to XP MCE 2005 and have not had any problems since. The very young Vista drivers are the killer.Only solution I found was the following:1. Don't run in multiple monitors (this usually cures the issue)2. Run in Window'd mode (Alt-Enter) Granted it doesn't look as pretty, but it eliminates the issue.3. Latest Beta Drivers still don't resolve the issues.4. Maybe SP1 at the end of this month for FSX will help???So if you're running an 8800 in Vista, you'll have to deal with windowed mode or one screen until better drivers come out. As for me, I have my Vista HD put away and will re-install it when the second round of drivers come out with better support, and maybe SP1 for Windows Vista whenever that'll happen. Until then I'm sticking with XP MCE 2005.

I have OCZ GAmexstream 700w and with separate connectors for the card so it should be okay on that end.And yeah I expected problems but I hadn't seen anyone post about my individual one so I thought maybe there was something I was doing wrong perhaps. I guess I will just wait for drivers to get it perfect, although I can play it now using the alt-enter trick and boy does it look pretty =)

If you have problems which are fixed with Alt-enter so puttingyou into window mode then you are, by definition, turning offAA and AF for your graphics card. As noted there are problemswith drivers with AF and AA for the graphics card you have underVista.Go to the graphics card setup program and set the AF and AA off,see if this fixes your problem. With my ATI card this can befound under advanced properties for graphics from the systemproperties. AF : anisotropic filtering : used to improve the graphic effectswhen contrast edges (lines) do not align with the X/Y axis ofthe screenAA : anti-alias smooths contrast edges. Both of these effects can be done via the graphics card (by theGPU) or via the program - from the setting dialog of FS9/FSX. Onlyone should be turned on at the same time. Regards

I don't run multi monitor. Other than that I have NO problems with FSX on Vista-64.Granted, the NVidia drivers are still premature, but they work fine for me with AA-16, AF-16. His 700 watt PSU may be problematic if it doesn't have enough power to the different 12+ volt rails, like 30 amps each for two or 15 amps each for a 4 rail setup. It could also be a defective 8800.Go to NVidia's forum and you will see many have problems with the 680i chipset, really need the latest BIOS to configure it properly.Guy's had problems with memory settings with the 880a chipset too. However the BIOS was ok, the settings had to be setup manually. My machine see's all 4 gig of memory with Vista-64, runs at Vista's 5.9 performance rating. When PMDG and LD release some AC's, all should be well.
