How do you get FSX to utilise more RAM please ?

Recommended Posts

I have just upgraded to 4gb of RAM in Vista 32bit .. but only 3 gig is useable until I upgrade to Vista 64 - that I'm fine about.but ....when running FSX for a period of time, then alt-tabbing out and looking at resources - my memory usage never goes above about 500MB - sometimes 600MB - any ideas ?I see people posting that FSX uses as much as it can get ... and people saying that for them it seems to utilise 1.5gb plus ...I used the explorer suite to enable the cap off the 2gb limit - to no avail.any ideas please ?thanks, Mark.

I just finished flying in the f18 from Vancouver to KSEA and was watching the memory. My total memory useage in the performace tab graph showed 2.07GB, and FSX went up to 1.3GB.I'm using a 640MB Video card @ 1920x1200, so that accounts for a lot of it, how much memory does your card have?Your numbers still seem low, how does it run?

You might try severely reducing your page file size. I am doing this in Win2K Pro and notice there is no longer the insidious swap file access, and to boot significantly more ram is being used. Prior to this move I saw regular & frequent random sized writes to the swap file which I had residing on a 3rd drive, sep from the OS and FS9. After reducing the page file size from 1.5GB to 2mb, that was the end of this drive write activity and ram use went from about 5-600mb to 1.3+ gb.Dunno if Vista lets you change this or not.Noel
