If you have bought either a Samsung 226BW or 245BW from...

The Canadian retailer, Future Shop, via a retail store, or via the Net, and you purchased it within the last 30 days from today Sept.3/07, THEN...if you take your sales slip back to ANY Future Shop store (Canada), or contact them via their website, you will receive a 10 percent REFUND (plus tax) on the price you paid if you paid a non-sale price for either. The two monitors are presently on sale at 10 percent off their regular asking price until tomorrow, Sept 4th/007.On my purchase of a 245BW last week, the refund isn't chump-change!You have the rest of today, and only tomorrow to enact this.I picked up a 245BW late last week for $499.99 (everyday price)and just came home from a visit with a refund of $57.00.This is a public service hardware message. Now back to your regularly scheduled program!:)

Thanks for the info, I got mt 226BW on friday, and went back today forthe 10% refund.Helmut

Rhett, it was a $35.00 savings plus tax on the 226BW, but the sale is now over and the prices are back to every-day. I don't think (don't quote me) that you can now get the differential applied. I believe that it is available while they advertise the LOWER price than you paid within the last 30 days of the sale price being offered. You can contact them to find out absolutely. :)Mitch

Oh..I think you meant the actual 'difference'...sorry.The 245BW is 24 diagonal inches of eye-candy at 1920x1200 rezo. The 226BW is 22 diagonal inches of eye-candy at 1680x1050 rezo. They both put out an excellent visual, but if you have the $150.00 more asking bucks for the 24 inch 245BW...get that!1920x1200 is ***WORTH..EVERY dollar*** of that extra $150.00!Also, the obvious, you get MORE eye-candy from the larger screen and much more real-estate on your desk top to cram everything....:)This was the best hobby-spent money I could have imagined for the bang-to-the-buck equation. The ATI1950 Pro drives this beaut. That is the dancing partner.Cheers!Mitch

>The ATI1950 Pro drives this beaut. That is the dancing>partner.>What MB and CPU and memory do you have? Maybe that could affect how good the dancing partner is? Otherwise I have seen that this ATI1950 Pro is available in AGP.And it is an interesting thought getting such a card and monitor and keeping the old motherboard instead of upgrading it. It's bad that the big monitor cost over 5000 SEK here in Sweden ( > $710)

It's bad that the big monitor cost over 5000 SEK here in Sweden ( > $710)----------------------------------------------------------Hello, from Michigan, USA! :)In answer, I have the following:A Dell XPS Generation 3 running a Pentium 4 3.4 GHz.3 GHz of DDR2 533MHz (Crucial/Micron)An ATI 1950 Pro 256MB PCI-E Video CardWith the above stated system, I run FS9 with everything, including weather/clouds at full bore. That stated, I get a SOLID 30 FPS locked down, and in unlimited run between 60-70 FPS if clouds are at scattered and no heavy scud. With clouds at full bore, I get a steady never lowering/dipping 30 FPS locked down at 31 FPS.No stutters, and NO BLURRIES! This card (upon my system is the best that I have ever dropped into the slot) will not disappoint you. Finally, the Samsung 245BW is so darn HOT...with great features, including the adjustable height stand, that even if the asking price would have been $750.00 US--as a result of currency exchange, I still would have bought it.If you do decide upon this one---you CERTAINLY will not be disappointed. The performance is awesome in its native resolution of 1920x1200. The ATI 1950 Pro is running this level of resolution with no problems whatsoever.I would get the 512 MB card if you could. For a couple of bucks more, why not? :) It probably can't hurt, even though there is nothing wrong with my 256 MB part. I think that FSX actually uses the 512 vid memory. FS9 doesn't.Mitch

So question is if the same would apply for me even if i get the same or equivalent video card. During big stress I can dip below 20 fps but mostly I don't have stutters.-------------------------------------------------Hello,I don't believe that you really have less than me in the CPU department. That AMD 64 3200 is NO slouch!-------------------------------------------------------I gotsevere blurries with the Megascenery titles espicially PNW. Do you use these? No I don't Here is what I run alongside FS9 and I don't change this format.I run FS9 with either V.O.Z. or B.E.V. (Bird's Eye View) custom scenery.I run ASv6.5 and A.I. Smooth v1.2, and have P.A.I. supplying my A.I. commercial world. That's pretty well my 'custom package' for all flights.Of course, I have all sorts of different planes in the mix.As for 256 vs 512 of on board video RAM...if you decided to pick up a ATI 1950 Pro, you might as well order the 512 version. If my present part went for a powder, I'd re-order with the 512 part as the prices between the two are closing.BTW, the actual ATI part, has a very nice fan/heat sink arrangement that allows you to have something in right next to the PCI-E slot or your AGP. I also like the Sapphire part from what I've seen.Cheers!Mitch

Now here's some points I make on all of these threads about this monitor:1) my philosphy is, if you're spending $500 already, what's another $150? 24 inch sounds quite nice.2) I have only used CRT's because I have never trusted LCD's: a) durability over the long haul, :( their blacks, c) their side-view or lack thereof3) Probably in the next 6 months I am going to rebuild the FS rig. As a part of that, I am going to upgrade the old warhorse 17" Sony Trinitron. I have my doubts that the Samsung will be a better monitor than my 9 year old Sony Trinitron has been, but it will have more screen real estate.4) I used to build a lot of systems for people. I bought some Samsung monitors back in the mid-1990's and they were no good, tubes all went out in less than a year. That's why I asked what kind of warranty they had these days, in the other thread. I realize this is 10 years later and we're talking LCD's with no tubes, but I'm kind of leery.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Hey Rhett,This is SO FUNNY that you say this...for I was exactly as yourself.LCD? ----don't want one...don't need one...etc.I had a ViewSonic CRT 19 inch that was just fine by me. All good things must come to an end though...and it died of natural causes.I researched until the cows came home. The cows are home, and the research ended. What I loved the most was running at 1600x1024 on my CRT. Yeah...the instrument panels and all were smaller, but I picked up the better visuals and more of the FS world in view at any one time.I was going to buy another CRT, but decided to try an LCD. What the hey, so they say...My research led to Samsung's 19 inch 931BF at 1280x1050 max resolution. I still have it. It is a fine monitor.I saw that you could achieve a very nice scene with a decent LCD. OK, sold, not to mention that probably over the life of the LCD, it will pay for itself in electricity savings vs. a comparably-sized CRT. Much less heat generated too!Ok...having said all that...I still was MIFFED by the only draw-back to 19 inch LCD's...that you can NOT go beyond the native resolution.I had an ATIX800XT that could easily render resolutions at 1900xwhatever and maintain FPS in FS9. I now of course have the ATI1950 Pro.With today's mid to high-end cards...the really TRUE performance is their ability to give you high FPS with very high resolution figures. What is the sense of having one of these cards, if your LCD monitor now becomes the wet blanket and a severe visual performance limiter?!?!?!?Enter the Samsung 245BW. Now..FINALLY...I can enjoy the full power and features of my video card because I now have a monitor that will go from 800x600 all the way PAST what my ViewSonic 19 inch CRT ever could...and with no loss of display size! GOBS of display!Rhett...you just have to imagine seeing FS9 rendered at 1920x1200 but at the full square inches of a 24 inch diagonal.Words, are words, and are words....the eyes are worth a thousand of them! This purchase was the BEST money...I have EVER thrown at this hobby. I realize now, it is perhaps the most important money of all...for no matter what you have producing the signal, ..if it--- your monitor---bottle-necks the experience....of what final good was it? What was the good of putting in a power-house video card that can cook at max resolution...but then have a 19 inch monitor that knee-caps you to 1280x1050? or LESS!?!?!?It simply makes no sense. That's where I was with my 19 inch LCD.Now? Like I said in a post in the FS9 forum. Now..each time I run FS9...and see the FS9 world render in scope EXACTLY like I was viewing the actual world through a commercial airline window....looking left to right at altitude---- I am now quite content with my present system (I saved a veritable fortune by not upgrading for FSX) and what this monitor now shows me of my present system's performance. My recommendation based upon usage is----- I would buy the Samsung 245BW ...***BEFORE*** you put another dime into your present rig, or in building another one. See what your present rig gives you at 1920x1200. You might, like me...be totally blown away!A teaser...think of the max CRT display you have enjoyed with your Sony...and then stretch that onto a wide-view...with a few hundred lines of resolution in increase thrown in.That..is what my flight simulation experience is now. Simply..FANTASTIC, Rhett.Cheers, MateP.S. Rhett, you said in your post what is another $150.00 over $500.00 to buy a 24 inch monitor. I need to correct you. Future Shop (just an example) has them (the Samsung 245BW)as their EVERY DAY price at $499.99 (Can) If you live in a border State, near the U.S./Canadian border, you can realize another 5 percent savings converting your U.S. funds to Canadian, and then upon leaving Canada, can get back the G.S.T. Canadians also have to pay on any purchase. You do this at the border crossing Duty-Free Store upon leaving Canada. Once in there, ask where the booth is to complete this. The $150.00 dollars--more---was in comparing the difference in price between a 22 inch wide-view and stepping up to the 24 inch same.Mitch'er

>Hey Rhett,>>This is SO FUNNY that you say this...for I was exactly as>yourself.>>LCD? ----don't want one...don't need one...etc.>Nah, I'm not really like that. I just have always waited for the LCD technology to catch up. I think they have.>I had a ViewSonic 19 inch that was just fine by me. All good>things must come to an end though...and it died of natural>causes.>A Sony Trinitron will not die...they are THAT good. That's the thing, my Sony is still going strong. But I am sure that it is a case of, "I don't know what I'm missing". I am limited to 1280x960 res on the Trin.I usually run 1024x768 because 1280 is a little small on a 17".>>My recommendation based upon usage is----- I would buy the>Samsung 245BW ...***BEFORE*** you put another dime into your>present rig, or in building another one. Well I think I will do that, since I can use the monitor with any system I have or may build. And, it's time. I bought that Trinitron in 1998. It's about time. I'm tired of small-___ monitors. :) Back then I was just out of college and didn't want to spend more than $250 on a monitor. But now, that is not a consideration.>>P.S. Rhett, you said in your post what is another $150.00 over>$500.00 to buy a 24 inch monitor. That's not really what I meant. I just meant in general...if I am buying an "average" microwave oven for $90, I can buy a "great" microwave oven for only $30 more. I might as well spend the money. That's usually my philosophy on these types of purchases.Plus I can use an LCD thru 2 or 3 builds over 5 years if need be. At least I hope so.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian
