November 12, 200718 yr ... aside from it's inability to handle 3850 x 1024 (thus allowing the use of the Matrox TripleHead2Go system plus DX10, has anyone any feedback on the differences between the ATI X1950XTX and the 8800series cards? I've been using this card since FSX came out - and I've yet to fault it. I read all kinds of posts about nVidia issues, particularly "blurries" and continuous AA/AF and driver problems, yet I hear nothing about this ATI card. I fly the US west coast constantly, with most settings at or relatively close to maximum and I think my graphics are superb... I cannot believe I'm the only flyer with this card.Anyone care to express some thoughts??? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
November 12, 200718 yr You are getting excellent results in FSX for 2 good reasons:E6600 OC to 3.2GHz2GB OCZ PC-8000The only real way of telling how much the X1950 is contributing compared to an 8800 would be for you to swap card and see for yourself. Trying to Benchmark against each other is almost impossible. It would be nice to hear from someone who is running an X1950 with a different CPU/RAM combination to see if they are equally satisfied.RegardsJim
November 12, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the reply, Jim. For sure... - that C2D is an incredible beast! I went to ATI following the demise of the Voodoo (I had the 5500)and was really satisfied: the 9800Pro seemed to be the top card for a long time, and so I naturally gravitated to the 9600 and then the X1600 and to the 1950 when FSX came out. I just find it strange that - when everyone flew FS9 the ATI 9800 was king; now it seems that the nV8800 is in it's place - but HOW - given all of it's problems? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
November 12, 200718 yr I have a Sapphire Radeon X1950 XTX installed on my rig. I agree, they're fanatastic cards, but I don't feel that the rest of my system keeps my graphics card busy enough. I do experience blurries, lower framerates etc., but I attribute that mostly to my CPU not being able to keep up. It's been my experience that FSX relies heavily on a powerful CPU. When I first installed my X1950 XTX, is didn't see much noticeable improvement over my previous card. When I started mucking around with overclocking my CPU, that's when I started to see the framerates jump. Unfortunately, I could not achieve a stable overclock, so I'm sort of stuck with a great graphics card on a sub-par system.cheers
