ATI review on the new 3850 and 3870 cards

Featured Replies

Most tests of the new ATI cards will prove to be good advertisements for the nVidia 8800GT. And that from a died-in-the-wool ATI user.

It seems as though it is only in the price of the 3850/512 that any competition can be seen against nVidia. And the fact that nVidia is having a bit of problem with accelertaion pack if I am not mistaken...?

That's "DYED-in-the-wool" ;)I hope AMD/ATI can come up with something for 2008 that will compare pretty well with the 8800/8900. That would be good for all of us.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Hold on guys. The cards have just been released and they are the original drivers. ATI always continues to improve their drivers. I also haven't seen any reviews using FSX.

All these new cards are doing wonders for other games but as far as FSX and FS9 go I don't see any major increases in FPS. And quite honestly I don't see a point of dropping tons of money into a new video card if you're still flying FS9.

.. true, but my 1950XTX (that cost me $500 Can) won't run the Matrox TripleHead2Go system - and I DON'T want the aggravation that everyone has with the nVidia product: these forums are full of "blurries" and "AA/AF" issues. I love my smooth, clear, trouble-free, no blurries no aa/af problems ATI card. I just wish it would handle 3850 x 1280. If the new 3870 can do that for a coupla hundred - I'm game. I sure don't want to pay another $500.
