November 17, 200718 yr I've built p.c.'s since '87 or so. My current rig is a E6850 overclocked to 4.2ghz on water and an 8800GTX, 3 GB of 1066 ram overclocked.I have a Samsung 20WMGX2 20 inch LCD.Problem is, I get the 30 frames with 'normal' autogen settings on my monitor (yes, with drivers for monitor) at 1680 x 1050. Soon as I up the autogen to extreme or whatever, I get 17.Now here's what's weird:If I hook up the p.c. to my 60" HDTV at home, at normal autogen, and in INCREASED resolution (1920x1080) I get 50 frames. Soon as I up the autogen to extreme or whatever, I get 40.That got me thinkin.....I tried an old CRT monitor, and wham....same frames as the t.v.Anybody else having problems with an LCD slowing things down? I don't get it.
November 17, 200718 yr My new lcd slowed things down but as it is running in a much higher resolution I wasn't surprised by that in my case. What I was surprised about though is after a year and a half of sharp blurry free performance-I now get the dreaded blurries!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum ModeratorMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/ Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 17, 200718 yr I'm running triple monitors/triple views. The left mon is LCD on a PCI card- others are CRTs on an AGP card. All normal FPS until the mouse arrow is on the LCD and then FPS is cut in half. (mouse not clicked- merely showing on this mon.) Moral of the story for me is don't leave the cursor on this mon- always return it to main AGP mon.Any possibility your phenom is related to mouse cursor?Alex Reid CYYJ
November 17, 200718 yr did you turn off animated/dropshadow cursors? ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.
November 17, 200718 yr Hi Phil- I'm not sure if your response was directed to me or the original poster. But yes, Show Shadows, Window Contents, Hide Underlined Letters all unticked. Enable Pointer Shadow box also unticked. Do you advise turning it on? (Win XP FS9)Not sure of your reference to "animated/dropshadow cursors".Thanks Alex Reid CYYJ

November 18, 200718 yr Commercial Member One thing that can cause this is having VSync on - there are only certain fractional values of the refresh rate the FPS can possibly be when it's on. This might explain it if Vsync is somehow off on the other two displays - 50 could be inbetween two of the values the FPS can be and thus it gets "rounded" down to 40 or whatever on the LCD.http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_9.html - more info on it here.
