Different Instances of FS.

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to run multiple instances of FS2002, where they reside on different HD partitions but are on the same OS? I'm wondering how the system files for FS2002 (that might go to the Windows folder) are handled. My OS is Win XP.Thanks for any information.Bruce.

Multiple instances work fine Bruce. There are no files written to any of the system folders. Doug

The only problem you might have with copies not registered in your Windows registry is third party addons/tools that look in the registry to make their changes.

No, it does not mean that, and yes you can. For example:C:FSTestMSFS2002C:FSProdMSFS2002C:FSJunkMSFS2002And so on and so on etc. To duplicate the setups merely copy and paste.Ciao!bt

Yes, you can have two copies side-by-side in the same partition. What you want to do is exactly what I have setup here. It's also handy to have the default copy available in case of an "oops" that requires reloading some of the original files. The "virgin" has no Registry entries but that's not a problem with the way I use it.Doug

Thanks. I expected the path to FS to be not available in an installer window (of the 2nd instance). What I hear you saying is that some installers (3rd party) may not present a path window, and therefore would only ever update the primary (first) instance, and forever ignore the 2nd. (I recall the PSS installers may be like this). That could be a show-stopper, I guess.Thanks,Bruce.
