Is my Dell XPS720 not good enough for FSX?

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm really desperate right now.Recently Dell has replaced my XPS 700 mobo for the better XPS720 version. My system is now as follows:Dell XPS 720 (A02 BIOS)Intel Pro Core Duo E67002 GB Corsair DDR2 800mhz SLI memory (but another 2GB on the shelf)4 x Nvidia 7950 GX2 in SLI modeDell 19" flatscreen with 1280x1024x32Latest NVIDIA drivers (not beta) for the videocard and nforce chipset (both updated yesterday).FSX with SP2, no acceleration pack. Why, Ohhh why is my FSX with the PDMG 747X on the default schiphol (EHAM) running at 6FPS (ground) and 16FPS (air)? It's a little better with de LDS767, 16FPS (ground) and 21FPS (air).Anyone running FSX on a XPS 720 too? (not the H2C).Offtopic: This system can be overclocked but I can't find decent information on how to do that with ntune (or manually).Thank you very much,Marc NieuwhofAlmere, The Netherlands

Your system sounds great!Have you tried installing FS2004 to see how that runs?I suspect that you are having the same probs as the rest of us in regards to running FSX. It's just like when FS2000 came out (the software world needs to wait for further enhancements in the hardware world).None the less I think FSX could do with some code optimization!!

Hi Qantas81,Yeahh... FS2004 runs smooth and silk with all sliders full!!!That's why I did not FULL upgrade to FSX.. (both are installed on my system)For my flying needs FS2004 is enough but my system should be able to run FSX in a decent manner but, it doesn't.Most scenery and aircraft are not updated (though the ones I use the 747X and the LDS676 are).Thanx,Marc Nieuwhof

Meh, the PMDG is just tough, and if you have AI traffic at EHAM (the default airport is very detailed), then I'd say that's normal. What do you get in the default C172 there? I'd guess anywhere from 15-20

I don't know much about pay ware heavy aircraft but in the default Boeing 747-400 sitting on runway I get 21 FPS locked. All my settings are mostly right and AI at 36 percent. Yes I can set the sliders very low and get higher frame rates but everything looks like crap so that is why I fly only GA....and I must admit flying GA and sliders set mostly right I am happy with the performance. I do approaches at small and medium airports and they are as smooth as silk. Yes I get the auto-gen popping in as I fly when I am real low and it is a little bothersome....but I am stutter free. In the default Cessna I can fly all around the airport with 15 to 29 FPS when set on unlimited. If I lock it at 15 it stays there most of the time flying around the airport and sometimes will dip to 12. That is why I stay away from large airports. My system cannot handle it...but what you are running should handle it fine. My specs...P4 3ghz....2gig RAM.....7600GT 256mb video. I am always amazed at the varying results on differnt systems with FSX. That is one reason I have not upgraded yet. I have a Dell XPS on my wish list...along with other systems but there are so many people who get no better performance than me and I get nervous that if I spend that money and my performance does not get a lot better I would be one cranky guy. But in my humble opinion something is going on in your system that is not correct. You should be getting much better perfromance. Regards, Randy

>What do you get in the default C172 there? I'd guess anywhere>from 15-20Hey Ryan,That's what I have tested too but with the default Baron 58 the framerates are better on the ground and in the air.Taking of from rwy 22 on EHAM.Marc

I just can't figure out what the problem is.Happy GA flying,Marc
