>wow!. needs an external power source?? it really is a >blackwhole isnt it!!!!!!!!?.. lol :-lol Good one! I think I'll use that line to desribe my rig! :)Think about it, it has tripple the transister count of todays CPU's!I believe most versions of the 9700pro also use an external power connector.

That seems a "reasonable" price. At least in the context that I was expecting it to be more. Too expensive for me, but I feel happy knowing that more people will buy it one $399 than people would at $499. Maybe I missed something in the ad listing, but no one is yet quoting the DDR memory speed. I just wonder if this $399 card is the slower version (I think it was going to be 900 Mhz last time I looked) or the faster version (1 Ghz).

Here's a reply in response to a GFFX question on the Alienware forums about power supplies:It appears a 400 watt minimum will be needed.""Alienware is quickly transitioning our systems to a standard 400Watt-minimum PSU, so there will be no problem for those purchasing a new system. For Alienware users with an "old" system whose PSU is in the 340Watt neighborhood, I am going to recommend that upgrades to a GeForce FX be performed only in-house so that we can ensure stable system operation and reliability.""Kevin O'NiellSenior Product Manager

If it has its own power supply why would you need 400 watts for your pc?? Just curious. Don ( I really don't know about these things)

This will be EXACTLY like it was with the GF4**REVOLUTIONNARY TECHNOLOGY**,**IT'LL MAKE FS"2002/4 RUN THREE TIMES FASTER**If there is something I have learned is that FS2002 is not as video card dependant as other games. If you're planning on spending 400 bucks on something for your FS I suggest a fater drive, mroe RAM, a faster CPU or the like...Maybe until FS can take full advantage of these new cards' features.

What people mean by the card having it's own power supply is that it actually has it's own power supply connector - not that it actually has it's own power source. It will still be fed the required power by the AGP slot plus the extra power connector on the GeforceFX PCB.The reason the card needs it's own onboard power supply is that in all liklihood it exceeds the current draw specification for AGP (the first card I believe that did this was the Voodoo 5500). Meaning most mainboards would not be able to supply the required current. The reason you need the large power supply is that the extra power required by the card still needs to come from somewhere - in this case straight from the power supply as well as the AGP slot on the mobo. If you tried to run the card with, for example, a 300 watt power supply, you might well find that the power supply itself cannot supply the extra power needed to run the card with complete stability.

>me wants me wants me wants.. pity it's going to be like >$900AUD :( I think you might be a little optimistic there John :-) I'm thinking it will easily crack the tonne, or at the very least $999 AUD. Ignoring the simple exchange rate equation, AUD prices are still around 2.5 times the US price. otoh, I hope you are right, as it is clear a lot of us are going need new power supplies as well.
