April 5, 200818 yr I use Ultimate Defrag.I Put the FSX/scenery and texture folders in the high performance. I put 80% of them there, and archive the restI then defrag by file/folder name and use "Respect high performance"This way the scenery files are on the outer platters of the hard drive, and access time is faster | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 5, 200818 yr does anyone else think the autogen / effects / sounds / folders should be placed also in the high performance category of Ultimate Defragger?
April 6, 200818 yr tell me if Im way off in doing this...this is the high performance custom file select option in ultimate defrag
April 6, 200818 yr okay now I think Im closer to what Im looking forand boy does FSX load quick!!!one problem I notice is that I get white screen flashes on a couple of tiles that Ive never noticed before defrag. this happens when panning to the side in cockpit and quicktransitions to the outside view.
April 6, 200818 yr lol im just talking to myself in here now but thats okay.I think Ive linked the white flashes to overclocking.loads are not as fast as I thought in the beginning. It did load fast once(which was weird) maybe fsx starts loading your flight before you say go??and I also have weird sound anomalies in particular I noticed the 747 has engine sounds that sound weird is all I can say. My sound card is creative audigy and I heard that they dont like nforce chipsets. I wonder if there is a patch or something for this. I looked at dxdiag and it shows that (The file ctaud2k.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.)
April 9, 200818 yr Ok the fluff...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187459.jpgAnd the Stuffhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187460.jpgBtw those results knocked me plum off my rocker.Rob
April 9, 200818 yr Its because of the 4 WD drives in RAID. Those ATTO numbers look correct to me.With a real RAID card you actually get to see them work, especially in XP x64. With 4 drives you should be double what I posted. And you should know better than to partition that array... bad boy Ozzie, bad, bad, badLOLDo make sure WRITE CACHE is indeed ENABLED. Defrags will take forever if it isn't. And be aware of the danger if you dont have a BBU on that tower or the card with write cache enabled. If the system is in the middle of a write operation and loses power, most likely the array will go bye-bye... but you do need WC enabled for performance.
April 9, 200818 yr >And you should know better than to partition that array... But Nick... I have a good, ehem, reason, yes that's it! ... "a good reason" to try! Really! (I knew I'd be headed back to the dugout :-P ).Ok, let me explain... "wait... there is too much... let me sum up."There's 2 sets of "Data" I'd like fast access to:1st Partition: ~110GB for FSX2nd Partition: the balance ~500 GB for Chess Tablebases http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TablebaseThe 3 & 4 man are small, less than 32MB total. 5-man ~ 6GB. The 6-man... woof... well the "complete" set is about 1.2 Terabytes. I have right now about 40GB and will collect a few of the more important ones in the future (they're public domain). These 6-man tbs are huge. For example, KRB v KNN "each" is 2GB (one for white, one for black). The larger ones are actually broken up into smaller sizes from like 300MB to 800MB.I just, ehem, thought it would be a martha stewart good thing to keep these 2 "things" on their own partition and "never the twain shall meet". FSX is the priority, the tablebases, well, is acceptable if there is a slight hit.* So I'll actually hurt FSX too by doing this? * FSX isn't installed on the first partition yet btw, so is just a simple matter of reformatting. Also btw, I did get the BBU (time to see if that is charged) and am on a APC Back-UPS RS 1500.I think I followed all your other instructions (from other posts) about setting up this card correctly, and yes WC is enabled on the drives (So... just a light beating about the head & shoulders? ok?).Rob
April 9, 200818 yr LOL!!wHACK!Just so you are aware.. You are actually shadowing 8 partitions with the 4 drive RAID setup you have (take 4 rectangles and cut them in half) so I would suggest you not use any partitions on the RAID array. Its just a suggestion. If you would rather run it that way, its up to you however partitioning a performance RAID array is really a no-no. It makes the array much more susceptible to glitch corruption and it does slow things down.. however if you are keeping FSX on the outer partition, that
