April 15, 200818 yr The stutter I'm getting is rediculous. I've been tweeking this thing for weeks and can't figure out the cause of it.I have all new drivers. I have shut down EVERYTHING in VISTA with AlacrityPC. I have changed the FSX.CFG in every way possible and still get stuttering. Any change I make in the DISPLAY properties of FSX has no effect on the stutter. Totally shutting everything down to its bare minimum has no effect. I still get this lurching of the ground. I'm running a dual core 2.33 CPU and am afraid to overclock it as it seems very complicated. Do I need to overclock this thing to get it working? This system runs CRYSIS just fine but can't run FSX. I'm using the default planes so I know nothing extra would be causing it.HELP! I'm at the end of my rope.TurnipSPECS:VISTA Home Basic 580 WATT Sunbeam PowerCrucial Ballistix 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAMASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E6550ATI Radeon 3870 512250 GB WD SATA HD 120 GB WD IDE HD

If games run ok then I would clean house. Remove FSX, defrag, delete the FSX directory, then re-install everything.

April 15, 200818 yr Delete your FSX.cfg and let it build a new one. You will have to reset a few items back to what you had as well as add back in any cfg tweeks you made. I have seen and have read where what you are seeing and that fixed it in some cases. Might also want to reinstall your video card drivers and maybe even reseat the card itself. The other thing that is VERY important is that you need to keep you HD defragged. I use O&O defrag. Jim Wenham
April 15, 200818 yr The system that I am running it on is all new componants. I haven't defragged the new SATA drive, thinking that it being new, that wouldn't be the problem. I will try a defrag now as it wouldn't hurt.Is the O&O Program free or pay?TurnipSPECS:VISTA Home Basic 580 WATT Sunbeam PowerCrucial Ballistix 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAMASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E6550ATI Radeon 3870SB LIVE 24250 GB WD SATA HD 120 GB WD IDE HD
April 15, 200818 yr I bet thats it! O&O is a payware but they have a 30 free trial. To properly defrag could take hours. There is a post about how to use O&O. I think version 8.6 is what you need for vista. I'll try and dig up the post about it if you want. Jim Wenham
April 16, 200818 yr The CPU is the limiting factor, it is a bit slower than the older E6600, and slower than my AMD6000 - in which I have problems with large cities/airports. FSX>installs extreemly fragmented.Oh yeah, if you have done a clean install of FSX and have not yet fragmented your hard drive it should be on the top of your list. Your gonna be around a 50% fragmentation level.Once you install FSX and get all your addons installed the very next thing to do is defragment your harddrive (and do so multiple times). Nick_N's O&O guide is great.
April 16, 200818 yr Would you mind just explaining "be sure FSX in on the SATA hdd" ?I'm just about to set up a new system with 1 WD 150 gb and also a 500 gb Seagate Sata so I guess c: and d: drives. Where would you install the O/S and therefore FSX etc....Would really appreciate your thoughts on this.ThanksJohn

April 16, 200818 yr Thanks Sargeski, just one more question then, what about add-ons eg aircraft and scenery? or FEX and UTX? sorry thats more than one! Thanks.John
April 16, 200818 yr Addons such as FEX, GEX or X-Graphics which are database type programs should be installed on your OS drive.UTX, FTX, and Aircraft should be installed on your FSX drive.
April 17, 200818 yr Great, thanks very much for your help. Its a learning curve for me! but getting better.John
