Antialising not working in FS2004 with new video card

Featured Replies

Hi All,I'm new to the forums here. I've been trying to hunt down some information that might solve an issue I'm having with antialiasing in FS2004.Okay first off, I've just upgraded my PC to a Core 2 duo 3.0 MHz system, with 4GB of DDR2 Ram, and a 9800 GTX Vid card. To my surprise, Windows XP booted up when I reapplied the power (I'm still using my old case, SATA HD's, DVD-R, power supply, ect.) I planned on reformatting, but since XP booted I thought I might just have a play with it as is and see how it runs. I did have to install the new MB drivers, and graphic drivers, but other than that everything is running like a charm... until I load up FS2004. I like eye candy, and I like to run FS2004 with the quality settings as high as possible. Usually, I run the internal Antialiasing setting in FS2004 off and I use the external nVidia control box to set my preferences. I expected the 9800 GTX to make FS9 very pretty and smooth, but all I see are jaggies.. like the AA is turned off. I've experimented with all sorts of settings and even tried turning on AA inside FS9. I uninstalled the video drivers and reinstalled then, and I also tried deleting my FS9.cfg and reconfiguring all the settings under a new cfg file, but that didn't help either.. I still have the jaggies. As a side note, all my previously installed games are running perfectly with the new hardware and are truly stunning with the 9800.. except for my beloved FS9 :(So I posted here hoping someone might have had experience with this issue or know of a fix that might help. Thanks for any help.. hoping to avoid a reformat!Cheers,Chris M.

Not to sound like a jerk, but try the forum search function....there's AT LEAST 10 threads on this very issue. The jist of it is: nvidia sucks at drivers lol...You'll need to download nHancer, and do all this fun stuff, check this thread:http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=38921And here's another one from flightsim forums originally from me, it's sorta long but it will lead you to the answer:http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthrea...ighlight=engage

Thanks, I appreciate your help and the links. Actually I did do a search first, but obviously didn't use the right keywords.Cheers,Chris

WOW.. I'm using nHanser and some settings I found in the nvidia forums and I'm absolutely amazed at how FS9 looks... it's never looked so good!! I'm back in screenshot heaven again! In case anyone wants the settings I found:http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=38921Ryan, thanks again for the help! :)Cheers,Chris

You're welcome... I must say sometimes I search but use the wrong variables. I've learned to tell people to search but also provide links as well.So how's the card perform in FSX and other games? I recently got my 8800GT OC version - I really like it, except I can't OC it further, I get artifacts. Anywho, it was only 200 USD, and I can play all the latest n greatest games. I run 16x (4xSS 4xmsaa) AA and 16x AF on FS9, with FSX I only do 8x AA. I wish I could use 16xAA because the autogen trees are really shimmery.

I dusted off FSX (couldn't run it with my old system) and loaded it up this morning, applied SP1, and then installed Acceleration. I set everything to Ultra High and it was somewhat choppy around 10-15 FPS. So I backed off the settings to High and am getting frames between 25-30, which is very playable, and that's with the default Caravan at KSEA - Seattle. But now I seem to have a new problem.. I tested FSX through all the install stages as I added SP1 and then Acceleration, I can load a flight just fine but when I hit [ESC] to end the flight, FSX freezes! I can hit ESC again and it will go back to the flight and continue on just fine, but I just can't end the flight. I have to use ctr+alt+delete to get out. I was hoping the service packs would fix the problem, but they didn't.. so I'm back to hunting down info that might help.. I suspect it's also a driver issue.. maybe nHanser is the answer, I'll test it out.Regards,Chris**UPDATE** It's definitely a driver issue, I used nHanser with the settings mentioned above for FSX and now it works like a charm, I can end the flight now, and it also loads the flight in half the time! Again, thanks for telling me about nHanser!! :)
