New WHQL Driver Out for all NVIDIA GPU's

Recommended Posts

Well I had 2 major problems with it - the driver did not recognize the resolutions on my HannsG 28" monitor. I was able to manually set it 7o 1920x1200 tho. Then on two out of six different flights the sim just stopped cold and went back to the desktop. Something I have NEVER had happen. Also noticed some blocky textures for a bit when changing views.Went back to the 174.74's and all is well.Q6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx XG 174.74 702/1620/792Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg

Well I can now report that I have installed the 175.19 WHQL's. Initially, you may recall from earlier in this thread that it was shimmering very badly.I have the shimmering tamed down to a manageable level, essentially using Ulf's settings posted earlier in this thread. Certainly it's no worse than it was with the 169's.I'm sure some of you are getting water shimmering in the sunlight, yes, no?RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT

"I'm sure some of you are getting water shimmering in the sunlight, yes, no?" No. And I have a system similar to yours except I have 2 8800GTX's w/756MB ea and my CPU is OC at 3.73GHz. I have my water set to the second highest setting. Lowering gives you better frames but I think the quality is poor at the lower levels. It's all in the eyes of the beholder... Of course I have addons like UTX and GEX to enhance the water textures. One method I use to stop shimmering is to set the Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias to Clamp in the NVIDIA display settings. If you have AF turned on to the max, you might try lowering that too. I have mine turned off in the NVIDIA display and on w/i FSX. Best regards,Jim

I have Neg LOD Bias set to clamp, too.I have FEX (but not GEX or UTX). I have my water set to the third from highest setting...so maybe I will move it up to 2.x mid and see how that goes.I can't recall what my AF is set to, it's whatever Ulf was using :)RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT

I'm using FEX water textures for FSX. The current water theme is Depths of Realism and the water animation is Calm Lazy. Maybe the combination of water theme and animation may have an impact on the shimmering.Ulf B

FYI I have removed the 175.19's from my system--I won't go into detail right now, but I was getting general system instability with them...I'd recommend 175.16 or 169.xx for the time being.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT

I did too. Went back to the 174.74's. Much more friendly when it comes to potential stutters.
