Question about AHCI

Recommended Posts

Guest SuperFortress

I have an HD that supports NCQ and my mobo supports AHCI. Currently my drive is setup as native IDE. Is it worth switching over to AHCI? Will there be a significant performance increase? I know this usually involves a complete reinstallation but if it's worth it then I would do it. Thank you.

FWIW, I've read that NCQ is mainly for servers and some have found that enabling it on desktops can actually hinder performance - for that reason I left it alone on my system - no complaints here on HD performance.Regards, Kendall#1: E6750@3.2GHZ/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 4GB Ballistix Tracers PC6400 EVGA 8800GT - 174.74 beta Seagate 250GB 7200.11 CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 - X800XT Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's
