Video Cards? sigh..

Hi Guys, the time has finally come that i am building a machine. Currently, only have one monitor at 1280x1024. Eventually looking at a 3 monitor setup, whether it be TH2GO, or via a second video card. Using a P45 Motherboard so Dual PCI-Express @ 8x each is possible. This will be paired with a Q9450 @ 3.2Ghz and 4Gb Ram (Vista 64)Now, the question is.. which card? The 4850/4870 seems to suffer from extremely loud fans, and a faulty idle speed.. pair'd with some bad drivers, im sort of iffy on this. The 260 , about 100$ more than the 4850, seems to have immature drivers, and is not performing well is FSX.Can anyone shed some light? An 8800GT is an option, but not sure how well it will scale with the TH2GO due to the wide resolution?Bah!

Well FSX doesnt seem to work with SLI so that is a waste, and also you shpuld lok at PCI exp X16. It seems that some motherboards will drop there slots from X16 to X 8 when running sli seems to kind of make the whole SLI thing seem foolish. You want as much bandwidth as possible. You may be beyyer off getting that little plug in box, "matrox triple head", if you want multiple monitors. I have just got the 9800GTX and it works fine. Slight improvement over the 9600GT, and it seems they are the replacement for the 8800 series.

Up until recently, you needed an nVidia card to run TH2G at full resolution (3840x1024), but it seems ATI cards running Cat 7.1 or later can now do this too. In any case, the 8800 scales reasonably well to the large screen size, with FSX taking more of a hit than FS9 due to FSX's greater utilisation of graphics card performance than FS9.Gary
