New Motherboard problems

Recommended Posts

I have just had a new motherboard installed as my MSI P-35 died. I have a E6850 chip. Now I have having problems of flightsim crashing after about 15 minutes (general freezing). Also had this problem when installing a program. If I run CoreTemp, I am getting really strange temps that start at 50C and climb to 100C just prior to the crash. My computer guy tells me it is impossible as the fan is a good one (much better than standard fan). I have not overclocked the chip, although it was overclocked on the old board.Any ideas ?Mark.

Check the bios settings for the CPU, FSB , voltage etc .Check to be sure the CPU fan is running as expected, open the case have a look, also in the bios you should be able to see the RPM of the CPU fan.If the fan is running as expected, next reinstall the CPU cooler:Remove the CPU cooler, clean with rubbing alcohol, put new thermal paste on then reinstall the cooler. If those fail you have a bad CPU.If you tell your computer guy,the CPU he installed is running at 100C,and he says impossible you have a good fan,you need a new computer guy :)

Hi Mark,The fan "may be a good one", but he may not have installed it correctly. Wonder if he used the right amount of thermal grease and is the heatsink properly mounted? Don't dismiss those temp readings as they could be right and the cpu is throttling down in an attempt to save itself.Regards,Jim Karn

Thanks for the info. The CPU was previously overclocked to 3.6 with water cooling. The water cooler failed (and water fried the MB) so I have decided to go with a cheaper board and not overclock it. It is possible the CPU was damaged by the overclock or by the high heat following the cooler failure?Mark.

>It is possible the CPU was damaged by the>overclock or by the high heat following the cooler failure?>>>>Mark. If you generated enough heat to fry the motherboard you most defintely may have damaged the CPU.

C2's are pretty hardy when it come to heat with the built in protection so I'd say your chip is likely fine - your new HSF probebly is not and needs to be re-seated pronto, IMHO. Those push pins on Intels new mounting system are prone to pop.Regards, Kendall#1: E6750@3.2GHZ/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 4GB Ballistix Tracers PC6400 EVGA 8800GT - 174.74 beta Seagate 250GB 7200.11 CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 - X800XT Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's

Well turns out the RAM was defective and new ram does not cause any problems, however...the CPU temp is still 45C idle and 95C when running full out. The guys at the shop tell me they have thoroughly checked and rechecked the CPU fan and it is installed correctly. Not sure what is going on, they say the reading are incorrect and if they were correct the CPU would shut down to protect itself.your thoughts.Mark.
