Touchscreen technology?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I thought touchscreens had pretty much gone away but we just got a new piece of lab equipment today that has a flat panel monitor with touchscreen. It sure would make a nice overhead panel for PIC767 or the Dash8. Is anyone using a touchscreen or know how to do it??David

Touchscreens haven't gone away at all, they're the big thing in PDAs for example.Problem is that large high-res touchscreens are extremely expensive and delicate and therefore not suitable to general use.I agree that having a touchscreen to put the overhead and other subpanels on would be a great idea, but spending thousands of Euros on a decent second screen is taking the hobby too far for me :-lol

Hello David Lee, How are the Charts holding up? I asked this question in the Home Cockpit forum and got no replies. On E-Bay I saw Touchscreen covers that you could mount on any monitor and they would work. They were around $80 if I remember correctly. The possibilities for this technology would appear awesome for flight simm use. To date I have found no one that uses them for simming. I would be very interested to know if they work. Take Care,http://www.ktone.org/images/FSD_ken.jpgP.S. The Old throttle is still working, Thanks!

Ken,The charts have been great! I've made good use of them. Are you still using the Suncomm throttles? Did your dad enjoy the sim? I'll check E-bay for touchscreen covers. I can definitely envision a flat panel monitor suspended over me for the overhead and having it touchscreen. Now that flat panels are relatively inexpensive (at least ones of modest quality), the gears are really turning ;-) I'll let you know how far I get (before the wife pulls the plug that is!). David

Yes I am still using the Suncomms. I can't find a good Throttle Quadrant like yours. Seems people are figuring out there is a market for them and are asking an arm and a leg for what would otherwise be junk. My Dad and I had a blast! Thanks again for all your help. Take care,Ken
