KVM Switch on USB 2.0 (or better) Equipment

Recommended Posts

Anybody using a KVM switch with a USB 2.0 mouse and keyboard? Can you share with me the brand and model you're using? Is the switching between boxes as fast as it was when I used an old PS2 mouse and keyboard, or is it as slow as this Belkin "Flip" KVM imposter I bought last year (fully 4 to 5 seconds!!).Thank you for any imput you can provide before I spend another 50 or 60 bucks.

My Iogear DVI KVM switches about as quick as it possibly could. It takes longer for Windows to recognize that the USB keyboard and mouse have been reconnected than it does to switch. This one cost a little more than $50 or $60 though.http://www.iogear.com/product/GCS1762/

goates: that's a friggin' nice unit! I only need to use a KVM to switch my keyboard and mouse between my primary and WideFS Client machine, and only rarely, as a backup to when my Synergy software "winks" out on occasion, so that iogear unit is a bit more than I wanted to spend. But if the real delay occurs in the USB 2.0 sniffing technology, as I suspected and you seem to confirm, the Flip I currently use may be just as fast as anything else out there. I may go past a BestBuy today so I may just pick one up to give it a try. BestBuy and Circuit City both have excellent customer service practices which allow for full refunds on return of items that don't meet expectations.

I've also used a cheaper Iogear KVM that switched just as fast as the one I have, so it probably is just the USB re-connection that is slowing you down. At one point I used Synergy as well, but didn't really have room for two monitors and it would occasionally "wink out" as you put it.
