November 4, 200817 yr Crysis seems similar to FSX when using a single GPU,it's very hard to get good frames rates with eye candy on.Toms Hardware is reporting, the new top of the line chip only equals the current best Core 2 chip, when a single GTX280 is used.http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i...ing,2061-7.htmlSeems FS 11 needs a complete rewrite for multi CPU/GPU setups .Does not look like we will ever see hardwarethat can run FSX like we hoped would happen by now. Will MS commit the time and money to FS 11?Is the PC gaming market is just getting too small compared to consoles? November 4, 200817 yr Games that thrive on add-ons and tweaking, like sims and strategic games, will keep the PC gaming market alive but lots of other types will probably disappear from the PC or at least become more of an afterthought.I think that if Microsoft wants to keep making Flightsimulators, a (partial) rewrite of the core FS is inevitable. In the past few years we have seen that raw cpu-speed is only increasing marginally. The clockfrequencies are even going down instead of up. The real advancements are in parallel processing and dedicated instruction sets, combined with loads of (cheap) memory.I can't see FS11 see the light of day using the current limitations of the FS code. Apart from fully making use of multiple threading FS11 should make more use of video hardware acceleration and be able to use all the memory there is. Using the GPU for other stuff like physics might also be a good idea.I don't know how old the FS code is, parts may still survive from FS95 or even the DOS versions, but FS11 will probably require rewriting a lot of code.Allard.
