Perfect high-res 3-monitor virtual cockpit setup for TrackIR

Featured Replies

Hi guys, after spending several days on retrieving useful information in the web, my following problem could not be solved:The goal is to setup three different sized monitors for a virtual wide-view cockpit use WITHOUT a Matrox TH2GO hardware. The tricky point is to use TrackIR head-tracking for natural view adjustments over all three monitors without this Matrox addon. My monitor layout is as following: One center monitor, 30", 2560x1600 resolution, connected to a NVidia 8800 GTXTwo side monitors 21" positioned left and right of the center monitor, 1600x1200 resolution, connected to a second NVidia 8800 GTSAs I have read there is no possibility to get a horizontal span of the whole extended desktop over three monitors, neither in Vista nor in XP, to allow the three monitors behave like one and select this oversize resolution of horizontal 5760 x vertical 1600 (center) and vertical 1200 for the left and right side in the FSX-options menu. The option with the Matrox Tripple Head To Go is not a solution for me as it offers only a (3 x 1680 x 1050) resolution, which is less than the effective possible resolution of my monitors. Furthermore there are other disadvantages of this Matrox piece which shall not be discussed now.The other option to undock two additional virtual-cockpit-windows and position them on the side monitors has the disadvantage, as the side views (one virtual cockpit window on the right 21" monitor and one window on the left 21" monitor) are not in sync with the front view (on the 30" monitor). This sync is fundamentally in order to use TrakIR with three monitors effectively.I have also read about the software wideview, but I think this is more for networked pcs and I don't know if the virtual cockpit views of all pcs would be in sync when turning the head with TrackIR. Furthermore I don't want to use additional pcs as I have good graphic cards with totally 4 outputs, and the three excellent monitors I have are more than sufficient. So dear guys, is there a possibility for me to get these 3 virtual cockpit views spread over three different monitors in sync for head movement with TrackIR?I have seen plenty of multi-monitor-setups with a static spread view over several monitors, but I want to use TrackIR to change the point of view with head-movement and not keyboard shortcuts - to make the virtual cockpit as real as possible. Also I have heard that quadro-graphic card with 4 dvi-outputs could possible make a horizontal span over up to 4 monitors, but the question here would be if all monitors must have the same size. Nevertheless, it is not worthful to spend a lot of additional money for a quadro card.First I thought, the software ultramon can provide a solution for my problem, but it can not span the view horizontally. So until now I think, there is no other way than open a virtual cockpit window (three totally) for every monitor. To summarize all:1. How can I align the several virtual cockpit windows perfectly for matching the horizon and how can I make a seamless transition between the monitors?2. How can I sync all virtual-cockpit windows for TrackIR head-tracking use?I really hope that there is someone on this planet who can give me a help.Unfortunately panoramic head-mounted and head-tracked wide-view displays which offer a 180
