AGP 8X and fs2002

Has anyone tried fs2002 with an AGP 8x graphics card?Is the performance any better than AGP 4x? Noticable?I understand that Fs2002 is processor intensive. I have a 1.7 GHZ Athlon with a Geforce 4 ti 4200 AGP 4x. I was debating on weather or not to upgrade my Processor, aor graphics to AGP 8x.My objective is to maintain 30FPS with Wilco's Airport 2002. I also have some add-on aircraft that suffer from low frame rates. I also currently have 512 MB ddr ramata 133 Scsi Hard drive with a seperate partition for fs2002.

No I haven't made the comparison, but even without doing so, I can tell you that upgrading your processor is a far, far better idea than uprading your graphics card from AGP 4 x to AGP 8x (and your mainboard as well if it currently only supports 4 x). Every 4x vs 8x comparison I have seen has clearly shown the difference in performance on existing software to be somewhere between extremly small to non-existent.Given you have a Ti 4200, the only logical reason to upgrade your GPU is if you wanted to run either higher resolutions or higher levels of anti-aliasing and / or anisotropic filtering.

From everything I've read to-date, there won't be a difference with FS2002, or anything else, for a while. It looks like 8X isn't going to be much of an improvement, if any at all. I'd most definitely go with the processor upgrade - at least we know that will, for sure, show some gains.Doug

Wouldn't you have to upgrade your mobo as well, to support 8X?Given your system specs, I think you've set your sights too high trying to maintain 30 fps. My specs are similar, and while I see 30+ outside the dense scenery areas, I'm happy with 20-22 in dense scenery. To tell the truth, I see the meter drop below 20 occasionally. But overall, the sim is really quite fluid, and if I turn the FPS counter off, I wouldn't even know the counter was below 20.But like others said, I don't think 8X would make a noticable improvement.-Basil
