Fs2002 with Intel or AMD

Does Fs2002 run any better on an Intel pentium 4 versus an AMD athlon XP.I mean, suppose you take an 2Ghz intel and AMd processor and put them side by side. Does fs2002 tend to perform any better on one or the other?

I've used both, and been quite pleased. The one problem I see with AMD is that they tend to run rather hot, and require good cooling solutions (particularly during a warm summer) to keep the sim from crashing. This often makes for quite a noisy computer. Otherwise, I've not been able to detect any difference in performance when making the proper comparison (i.e. 1.8 GHz P4 versus XP1800, which is 1.53 GHz real clock speed). Of course, if you stictly adhere to the same clock speed, then the AMD tends to be faster due to a different internal achitecture (hence the 1.53GHz XP1800 can match up well with the 1.8 Ghz P4).

I am on my 3rd laptop within a month, the first was an HP with a celeron 1.8 gig chip and 512 meg ram with an ATI 32 meg shared video card, fs2002 default setup locked the frame rate at 30 and it worked smooth as can be, I would of kept that one but the ##### thing quit working the second day so it went back.The second one was a compaq with a Athlon 1800 xp with 1.53 gig chip and 512 meg ram and an ATI 64 meg shared video card, after i installed fs2002 it locked the frame rate at 25 and the display was no where near as good as the celeron 1.8 chip. It went back, I will never buy amd chip again.I am on my third now and it is a compaq P4 2.0 gig chip with 256 meg ram and an ATI 32 meg shared video card and fs2002 default locked the frame rate at 30 and runs smooth and looks great, It's a keeper so far.I thought the Athlon combined wiht the 512 ram and 64 meg video would outperform the celeron but it didn't even match it.I will stay with intel.

I don't think there is any real performamce difference between comparable processors, ie. AMD XP2000 vs Pentium IV 2.0, assuming comparable motherboards and memory. Price is another story. My local PC shop is listing AMD XP2100 at $114, while they offer the P4 2.0 for $182. Dale

Your system gets so hot it causes programs to crash? Well that is worrying.Athlon's do run hotter, but mine (in a relatively small room) (according to ASUS Probe) will go along at 41'-48'C without any fuss.The default auto-shutdown pint isn't till 72'C and I think you'd be hard pushed to reach that.As for your Laptop, won't that be using "mobile" or whatever it's called version of the Athlon? Iunderstand they are bad.

I used to be a diehard AMD man, but after my last AthlonXP1500+ was constantly crashing in FS2002 I decided to take the plunge with the new P4B Northwood chips.I have a P4B 2.4GHz Gigabyte 8IEXP board using the intel i845 chipset with 512MB DDR, I can honestly say that this is the most stable platform that I ahve ever owned. Along with my Albatron Ti4400 I am very pleased with my FS2002 performance and everything else in general.Great work by Intel and i am soon to upgrade to a P4B 3.06GHz.Go intel if you can.Chris de Barros/MYNNBahamasair DHC8-300
