OT Windows XP Pro vs XP Home

Hi Guys, just a quik question. I am looking to upgrade to Windows XP and am wondering if there is any real reason for me to spend the extra $$ for XP Pro. I only have one PC at home and do fairly basic stuff on it. Thanks for any input.Ron

Hi RonIf you are only using 1 pc, for "fairly basic stuff" then I recommend you go for XP Home.XP Pro offers features you won't need, like Encrypted File System, IIS and muti-processor support amongst other things.I work in the IT industry as a developer and find XP Home is fine for all my home computing needs .. no pun intended. :(

No reason to use the Pro edition Ron. It sounds like the XP Pro "extras" (mostly networking and security) wouldn't be needed. Doug

The advice you are getting is right. Pro is designed to be a corporate workstation. It is actually the successor to NT Workstation and Windows 2000 Professional. XP Home is the successor to Win9x/Me. If you never plan to use your PC in a corporate networked environment, then XP Home should be all you need.-Basil

If you are currently using Windows 98 SE you better stick with it I have Xp and it's a pain in the Keister

The older K6-400 machine we use as the family comp (not my comp) runs XP like a dream. I remember using it when it had Win98SE and that is absolutely the worst OS on the planet for that comp. GPF's became commonplace and a reboot every hour ment you were lucky. I'm not making Win98SE look bad or anything, it really depends on the comp...if your comp rejects it, its not gonna run right LOL.

well I heard FS2002 had problems with XP Home. When I just bought my new Dell I went with PRO and have had no problems at all.A guy in my squad had bought home to upgrade from 98SE and has had a ton of problems until he went and bought the Pro version.If your really into gaming, like my rig is for I would say go for PRO.Better to have an not need than to need and not have ;)
