Auto Pilot pre sets for Dash

Recommended Posts

Guest gwi

On this Dash, you can only preset the ALT by using the knob (ALT SET) immediately below the heading knob. Airspeed is controlled entirely by the power levers (no autothrottle) and VS by the trim wheel on the A/P console between NAVS 1 & 2. Once airborne, engage the A/P by pressing AP and YD (yaw damper)and quickly rotate the trim wheel to give you your desired rate of climb.Best/George[EGKA]

The alt you want to level at is selected using the ALT SET window. It is then armed by pushing ALT SEL on the auto pilot panel. Then if climbing push IAS and adjust the desired climb speed using the pitch wheel. If descending you can use either IAS or VS. It is normal to use VS.To activate the autopilot you only need to push AP, the yaw damper will engage automatically if not already engaged. On the right side of the advisory display you should see ALT SEL in white above either the IAS or VS you've set in green. For a take-off in our company we have Go-around, HDG and ALT SEL set on the flight guidance computer with the intial climb altitude set in the altitude window. This should give about 9 degrees pitch up on the flight director and runway heading. We also have the yaw damper engaged for take-off.Then on rotate we pitch up to the pitch bar and after gear is selected up, set IAS. You'll be doing around 120 - 130 kts. Then through 400' AGL we retract the flaps and accelerate to 135 kts until above the min safe altitude. Then we accelerate to 165 kts for the rest of the climb. If you use VS while climbing instead of IAS there is no airspeed protection to stop you from getting too slow and stalling while you sip tea and chat to your off-sider.As noted above, there is no autothrottle so you need to adjust the power manually. Normally up to the yellow torque bug in a climb and reduce to maintain desired airspeed in a descent.Jon
