Sudden Loss of Control in A333

Recommended Posts

Guest moose1226

I was just flying the A330-300 today, (happens to be my first flight besides the tutorials), and I came a cross a fairly major problem.Around FL290, I was climbing normally, and suddenly the aircraft started to shake violently, and then start doing flips in the air. Eventually, the aircraft stalled out and crashed to the ground. Do you know of any reason this might be happening, and what I can do to correct this? I followed the tutorial flights exactly, and this did not happen, so I might be missing some step in the flight process.Any Help Would be Greatly Appreciated! :)Thanks,Michael Groeneman

Check FSUIPC and turn off "icing and/or turbulance in clouds" Rgds, Sam

I will try that, but there were no clouds in the area during the incident if my memory serves me correctly.

Right! There were no clouds in my case neither and beyond a 20000 ft icing becomes very unlikely anyway due to decreasing humidity. I suffered the same effect lately and was recommended to use FSUIPC first. If you are running an external weather program, i.e. AS2004 check "prevent all icing" as icing isn't handled in FS9 very realistically. Sam

Where do I turn off this feature in FSUIPC? I looked in my Modules->FSUIPC menu, but don't see anything in there to that effect.Thanks.

First, that option is only available with the full (payware) version of FSUIPC.Also, you need to make sure that the "Allow interfere with FS own weather" option is checked (in the technicals tab I think).RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Are you sure that this will solve the problem of my control loss?I am willing to sink the $30 into a registered copy of FSUIPC, but only if I am reasonably sure that it will correct the problem with an otherwise good product.

I sould also note that this only occurs when I have my autopilot engaged. When I am flying manually, I can control the aircraft just fine. I just want to make sure that I am doing the right thing before I sink $30 into FSUIPC.

OK, I gave up and registered FSUIPC, but don't see the option that turns off icing. If you could tell me where to find it, I would greatly appreciate it.

There are three settings you need to set in FSUIPC.In the "Clouds" tab, under "effects", UNcheck the "Add random icing in cloud" option, and check the "Apply this upper limit to cloud icing" option, making sure the box below it has 0 entered (no icing). In the Technical tab, ensure that the "Allow changes to FS own weather" tab is checked.BTW, FSUIPC gives you a smorgasbord of other capabilities in MSFS. Hope you'll do some exploring and quickly come to realize what a real jewel that program is.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300

I changed all my settings to what you suggested, but still had the same problem. This is very frustrating, and I don't know what else to do. Any more suggestions?

What are you using for weather? What is the source? This looks almost certainly to be a wind and/or temp shift problem...could be you have a layer around 290 that's doing this.Have you tried this flight with clear wx?RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Bob:It isn't just at FL290, but it happens basically from that point up. One time, it even happened during normal cruise. I am using the FS feature that downloads the weather and updates it every 15 minutes. At some point, I will try and climb to cruise in Clear WX mode. I tend to think it is an autopilot problem, since when I disengage the autopilot, I can control the a/c normally. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The native FS weather is bad juju. The well-documented 180-degree wind shifting, among other known ills, is quite prevalent when using that cursed feature. My recommendation...either use no weather at all (use clear wx in FS *and* clear all wx using the FSUIPC menu) or a good aftermarket wx add-on...the only which I can recommend right now is ActiveSky 2004.Nothing special happens in the A/P at or near FL290. You might try monitoring the wx using the WeatherSet utility from the FSUIPC SDK, available on Pete Dowson's site.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

Guest EgyptAir5

hello I have a question , when your climbing, are you accelarting FS to over 8X? because I found the PSS airbuss to be unstable and shake badly and crash when you go over 2X of speed. could you be doing that?
