Speed question

Recommended Posts

Hello everyoneI read the specifications for the A321 at Airliners.net because my brother and I've been discussing the aircraft speed in Microsoft Flight Simulator, or rather the lack of it.The real world A321 is capable of doing 488 knots. The thing is though that I can't go faster than 350 knots in FS2004. I could of course, but I would overspeed. The red overspeed bar begins at 350 knots and it's a shame that I can't push her to her limit if I want to. What gives? Thanks for any help with this issue.KristoferSweden

They obviously mean True Air Speed. In specifications of A320, for instance, they mention similar speed at 28,000 feet, which means that it's altitude-dependent, so it's true airspeed. You can see it as TAS on the Navigation Display.

That's correct. In IAS the airspeed limits are:Mmo: 0.82Vmo: 350 ktsThere's quite a good FAA type certification document with lots of data on the A320 family at:http://www.airbusworld.com/portal/catalog/...UserID=2&ID=614Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
