Good afternoon PSS!Lately i had a flight on my lovely A330, i was wondering how to use that EXP button below the Altitude select knob, on real aircraft that button is sometimes ON, i actually dont know what it does, and when i use it, let's say on a climb or on a decent, i get a scary vertical speed while the airspeed decreases to mach 0.75 or somethingwhat should i know about that "Button"?

You will get a scary vertical speed and the consequent dropoff in airspeed to green dot speed because the EXPED button engages Expedite mode which uses pitch to get you to the altitude selected in the FCU with the maximum vertical gradient. There are actually two types of expedite mode: EXP CLB and EXP DES. EXP CLB commands green dot speed while EX DES commands 0.8 mach. If the alt selected in the FCU is above the current altitude then you will get EXPCLB mode, otherwise ALT DES engages.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
