Your indicated air speed will decrease with altitude because the air density flowing into the pitot tubes decreases.Above FL250 you should be using mach not IAS. Mach is the ratio between the aircraft's speed and the speed of sound. Your normal cruise speed will be mach .78 but the IAS figure that will show in the PFD will decrease the higher the flight level you are at. But look at the top of your Navigation Display and you will see your ground speed (GS) displayed. As an example from my last flight, my A319 was at FL380 at Mach .78 and the indicated airspeed, quite correctly, was down at about 240 knots. So you need to be thinking about mach not IAS at the higher flight levels. Your maximum operating speed in an Airbus A320 family above FL250 is mach .82. You should always express your speed in terms of mach number rather than IAS if you are above this flight level. You can press the SPD MACH button on the flight Control Unit on the glareshield to switch between IAS and mach.Your speed in the FCU should not be set to 330 knots unless you are below FL250 (where the max operating speed is 350 knots), but if you are flying in selected speed above FL250 your speed should be set to .78 normally or up to a maximum of .82. I hope this helps.---By the way, one thing to check in your realism setting in FS is that Display Indicated Air Speed is checked and not Display True Airspeed. That has caught a few pilots out before now.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
