Cost index & Step Climb

Recommended Posts

I am of course a newbie of Airbus, just ride it for 3 times.I have some problems in the cost index and step climb..Today I have a short flight from VHHH to ZSPD, so just fuel my airplane about 26000lbs fuel, and enter the cost index of 60. However, I only get cruising mach = 0.82, very slow. Sometimes, in PMDG747, even CI=40 can get mach=0.83. Is Airbus slower than Boeing, or just my mistakeThe second is that where can I have step climb selection, just like ICAO step climb. Or I should climb myself??

Is Airbus>slower than Boeing, or just my mistake [/blockquote]simply stated - like a big boat's v. a small boat's hull speed: the bigger you are the faster you can go (basic fluid dynamics).the 747 is currently the fastest airliner -- M.84-.85. (concord was the fastest ... but has sadly now a museum piece now.)the airbus 32X will fly most effeciently M.78-.80 (same with the boeing 737NGs). the 737 100/200 @ classics only flew effeciently at M.74.remember, for 99.9% of airlines speed isn't as important as effeciently as fuel is now the #1 cost -- remember boeing's highspeed, M.95, airliner idea from 2000 ... just before it was tossed for the 787).all aircraft are designed for a 'sweet spot.' in real life most transport jet aircaft are flying between M.74 and M.80. but if you want faster just change the cost index ... in FS the fuel 'is free.'--

The maximum for the A320 is mach .82, with most airlines using .78.BA's cost index for the A320- family has traditionally been 20 but was changed last month to 0 (as was the whole fleet).Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk
