A330 and A340 Altitude Problem

Recommended Posts

Guest klausd

Hello everybody!I wanted to fly a Route entered in the MCDU. My PSS A320 is flying that Route perfectly, but the A330/A340 doesn't hold the altitude. The Flight Director is showing everything correctly but when i select the autopilot shortly after takeoff , the Autopilot only change the direction of the plane, not the Altitude. I have to use my Joystick not to crash into Ground. Can you help me???Thanks a lotRegardsKlaus

i'm assuming, as you fly the A32x successfully you have programmed the MCDU with the correct information so the A330/340 knows how much it weighs.confirm you are adjusting the aircraft fuel and passenger weights so the aircraft isn't over MGW (the MCDU will not allow you to load a number above MGW; but FS will allow you to overload the airplane. the PSS Abus MCDU does not 'communicate' with the FS passenger and fuel loading 'subroutine' so it will fly by the weight you enter.)confirm you have set takeoff trim correctly - SD display, press FCTL on the ECAM panel. good number is -1.8UP.--

This is what i'm doing:Flight from WSSS/VHHH (Singapore to Hong Kong)I'm loading my A340-300 (Singapore Airlines) with (ZFW) 332957lbs and 86900lbs Fuel.(My FlightSimulator has International settings: (metric and Foot))- I'm starting with a Standard FSBoeing 737 in FS2004 in WSSS on the runway, engines running.- Changing the aircraft to A340-300 Singapore Airlines on the runway, the engines are running- I'm starting the MPCU and enter the follwing:http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-c.jpghttp://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-d.jpghttp://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-e.jpghttp://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-f.jpgunable cruise flight... but why??? A320 is taking off correctly anyway! So i dont't think this is the reason...My Configuration before takeoff:http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-g.jpgMy Configuration during takeoff:http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-h-jpg.html <---------And after takeoff:http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/1629-i.jpgAnd after switching on the Autopilot i'm going down to crash although the FlighDirector wants me to pull up. But why me? Its the job of the autopilot isn't it? The FLight Director is changing the direction of my aircraft but not the altitude!Something i made wrong???Thanks a lot!

thanks for posting pictures. this helps bunches!in summary i see you have programmed the MCDU correctly.but ... in flight can see you have you are going way to fast with the flaps in incorrect setting for being ~1200' above WSSS's runway.until ~1500' you should be at the following -*speed: V2+10 (170kts -- as the Abus is telling you in the lower left corner of the PFD in the last picture)*flaps in T/O position: 1+F (i believe the manual improper states "T/O flaps is 3")try this:*set takeoff flaps 1+F ( key once)*set FLX takeoff thrust*at 160 kts rotate up at ~4deg/sec to 20deg*gear up*hold initial climb speed of 170-180 kts*engage autopilot*at 1500' the Abus will command CLB thrust (expect the pitch to go down at this point as the aircraft is now in acceleration phase)*at 190-200kts flaps up ( key once)post an update after giving the above a shot.--

Thanks,i don't think this is the problem. Because the Autopilot is never trimming for flight. Even if i do not enter anything in the MCPU and performing a manual flight. As soon as i activate the autopilot, he is changing the direction (HDG) but he is never changing altitude (take off trim -UP1.9 remains and doesn't change anytime!). When i'm doing the same with the A320, everything is working fine... He is flying up to the Flight Level i've adjusted just fine. (32000ft 1000ft/min for example) But the A330/340 doesn't. Is there any button for activating trimming?best regardsKlaus

Scoob is right in that you are at 255 kts and still have flap 1 config. This will be causing your problem. To change trim the Home/End keys do this and you can see the pitch trim setting on the lower ECAm if you press the F/CTRL button.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

So the autopilot does not trimm my machine when i have set flaps to 1? My A320 do. By the way, the speed was only so high, because the autopilot doesn't control the trim and the aircraft is lowering the nose!!!----------------------------------------------------------------------Anyway, i did a perfect start with all speeds in limit without having flaps at 255kts but the auopilot is still ignoring to trim the aircraft. It's only controlling HDG and speed... The only way is to trim the aircraft all the time manually. But that cannot be the sense of an activated autopilot... :(Perhaps I should reinstall FS2004 and PSS Airbus?

Have you tried the revised flight dynamics by Bob Scott available from the user edits section of the PSS website. Before trying a reinstall I strongly recommend you get them and then report back.Rob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual airbus@speedbirdonline.co.ukhttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

Hello, the flight dynamics by Bob Scott didn't solve the problem. I've now reinstalled the Flight Simulator and the PSS Airbuses. Everything is working fine and i made it to Hong Kong :) I don't now how many things i've installed for the FLight Simulator in the last 2 years. Perhaps a little bit too much :DThanks to all!RegardsKlaus
