A340 Fuel Needed for Long Distance Flight

Recommended Posts

I am planning a flight from Santiago Chile to Auckland NZ in the A340-300, a distance of about 6600 miles. Using the PSS fuel planner shows that I need over 200,000 lbs of fuel for this trip. When I fuel the aircraft in FS2004, the fuel window says I cannot go over 176,000 lbs of fuel without being overweight. What am I doing wrong? What are real world fuel requirements for such a trip on this aircraft? Thanks!Airbus

loading aircraft is a matter of balancing the aircraft's limitations: you need to give up passengers and cargo (ie, weight) in order to take on more fuel (also weight).*the A343 has a 'empty weight' of ~265.1 (in 1000s of pounds)*the maximum fuel load is 239.1*the maxiumum weight for the A343 is 568.6*empty weight + cargo + passengers + fuel cannot be great than 568.6all the above comes from the PSS data in the aircraft.cfg fileyou cannot change the empty weight, only cargo & passengers & fuel. in this case you need 200.0 fuel.200 + 265.1 (empty weight) = 465.1 'dry weight' (meaning the plane does not have that wet stuff (aka fuel)).as max weight is 568.6, and your dry weight is 465.1. you can load 103.5 'weight' in passenger and cargo.--
