Fan Blades

Recommended Posts

Guest cracker123

Hello PSS Comrades,I dont know if you guys were aware that RC1 had interesting fan blade textures, basically the fan blades do not cover the entire engine you can see through the engine. Check out this picture. If you are already know I guess you will be fixing this in the final version . http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/132181.jpgThank you again PSS-Ven

are you sure they are not supposed to be like that, the blades certainly would not touch the casing so there would have to be some kind of clearence?

Ven, You are correct to a certain point. The actual clearance between the blades and the housing is about 5-7mm on the real aircraft. The main error here, all though minor, is the size of the engine housing in the rear. On the real a/c you dont see "daylight" because the back opening of the engine housng is smaller than it is at the blades.Josh

yhea that is what i mean to say, as in real aircraft you dont see the daylight, but in this case you kind of do, very very minor just wanted to let them know.

Fan blades wear into the blade tip seal area which is normally a honey comb composite seal area. We just had a GE CF6-6 take about 10 dove size birds through the engine, but did not go through the core area. We changed 23 blades out plus we had to fill the gouges in the blade tip seal area with a micro filler, and blend it down smooth. Then we had to perform a fan balance, and during this fan balance the tips of the blades will touch the blade seal area while running the engine near takeoff power settings. The blades wear in so that you have a close seal around the tip.
