Boeing breaks the record....can we do it?

Recommended Posts

Although as a truck driver I haven't even downloaded the final on my desktop to fly yet (I won't be home until Tuesday :(), I am wondering if we can do the stretch flight from VHHH to EGLL eastbound and IF SO, what do you think the settings should be (A.K.A fuel, payload, ect.). If anybody is even remotly interested in doing a group flight based on the record breaker e-mail me at wilsonhines@hotmail.com or preferrably check out http://www.redeyeexpress.net and join the forum and post regarding the subject. After reading the Boeing.com site and CNN's coverage I can't help but wonder things like: How they loaded the plane down; what will be the true operational range with a load of people on the plane and such things. I still would like to know the same information for SIA's WSSS to KEWR flight! Thanks for the feedbackWilson Hineshttp://www.redeyeexpress.nethttp://www.united-virtual.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

Hello,From what I red, I think they had only 35 Pax on board, that will gives full fuel and a very very light pay load, thus you can reach right away the highest level for initial cruise. But also to be honest, apart this info I have not tried to search anything about it, for instance.Cyrille de LattreAsus P4P800/4 2.4 Ghz/1.5Giga DDRAMATI 9800 Pro 128 MegATI 9200 SE 128 MegWin XP SP2 / FS9.1 with and with out nocd key.PSS Beta tester

de Lattre WGA,I have read and kept up with the 772LR record breaking flight and here's some things that was done for this attempt:Quite a number of airports were on the board for review, Hong Kong was picked due to the winds and the conditions favored by Boeing.LHR was the picked destination, the planning was done 2 months well in advance since slots at LHR was only avail to obtain a month in advance. The whole project was also delayed for 2-3 months for favorable winds to help with the flight.Fuel was researched. Hot and cold temps at the same time, they picked LAX airport fuel because properties of it makes it very dense and suitable for this flight. The fuel overfill switches was set to override so they can fuel it up to the brim filling every nooks and cranny. I'm sure there was quite some fuel in the surge tanks from this. The aircraft was weighed in presense of the reps monitoring the record breaking flight. The rules stated the weight should not be more than 100 lbs difference from the first and second weighing. The 772LR was towed into a hanger from a rainy day outside and left for 2 days to dry. The rain water that was on the aircraft weighed 300 lbs! After 2 days with the hanger doors closed (so air currents does not destablize the weight scale and readings), the aircraft was towed over the weighing pads with reps monitoring the long haul attempt to ensure no cheating, it was weighed twice and passed with no problems. Engineers miscaluclated the final weight of the aircraft before weighing it, it was off by 250 lbs. The flight plan was fly over the pacific from Hong Kong, then over the USA via the jetstream and flying over JFK while in the jetstream and off to LHR over the altantic. One of the test pilots is a woman with 7 years of test flying experience. There was a total of 35 people on board and that has the SIA and PIA pilots (PIA purchased the aicraft, SIA is looking into it serisouly)The plane was then ferried to Hong Kong, it used up 1,200 lbs of fuel for the ferry trip. In the plan, Boeing had another aircraft bring LAX fuel over to Hong Kong to top off the 772LR.The plane took off from Hong Kong at 10:30pm (Hong Kong time)It had to make 3 turns after take off with the rep monitoring the flight in the flight deck. In the plan it had to land at LHR with 45 min reserve. This flight was not subjected to commerical regs because it's still an experimental aircraft. And landed in LHR at 5:30am Seattle time after traveling 13,422 miles! At LHR, The Guinness World Book of Records awarded Boeing for the longest commerical flight. Reps from the aeronatuical engineers did the same thing for Boeing at LHR along with the media.

Kind of pointless since no commercial flight would require that kind of distance to travel and would not be able to with a 80% load

Hello, Chris,Technically it is very interesting, from a pilot stand point. In this experience, there is a lot to learn.Commercialy, it is a nonsens to me, Boeing is just trying to sneak-peak Airbus with the 380. It is just a quyestion of commercial and marketting war.It is just my very personnal point of view, and may not be some one else.Cyrille de LattreAsus P4P800/4 2.4 Ghz/1.5Giga DDRAMATI 9800 Pro 128 MegATI 9200 SE 128 MegWin XP SP2 / FS9.1 with and with out nocd key.PSS Beta tester

There is some point to it but not all for market reasons. As I can think of:Long Haul testingClaiming the record in the booksBeing the 'Brass' over AirbusSee how far it really goes in real life worldAnd a few more things I can't remember offhand now.I'd like to see if it can do KJFK - YSSY nonstop and YSSY - KJFK nonstop too.

It was reported in the UK that one of the objects was to show that any two cities in the world can now be joined by a non-stop flight. The fact that it went the wrong way round substantially increased the mileage (or should that be knottage?)

It looks like it went a slant upwards after leaving Hong Kong but overflying KJFK.

>One of the test pilots is a woman with 7 years of test flying>experience. Also, one of the other crew members who I've not seen mentioned anywhere was John Cashman, I think he deserves a mention, he was in command on the first 777 when it took to the air in 1994. I think he's been promoted since, something like head of all Flight test section now.

Thanks for the incredible detail Midnight. For the couple of folks that think the flight was a waste of time and effort: mankind always pushes the limits. That is what makes the evolution of technology capable. And besides, like one responded, the point of the LR was to have almost any pair of cities in the world non-stop and they have accomplished that. They can't fill the whole plane with passengers, but I bet they could put 60% pass and payload and still make 11,000 nm. Thanks for the responsesWilson Hineshttp://www.redeyeexpress.nethttp://www.united-virtual.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png
