Boeing breaks the record....can we do it?

Recommended Posts

I am currently 1100 nm from Heathrow. The CDU is predicting finishing with 33.0 worth of fuel. I compiled the flightplan with routefinder from VHHH-SEA-EGLL it listed the flight 10393.8 nautical miles. It been going for quite some time now. Also as a note for a good part of the flight the CDU said insufficient fuel but I am going to land with plenty.

>BTW, anybody intersted in making a flight like this?>>>Wilson Hineshow do I decode this flight plan?I know VHHH is the depature airport, EGLL is the arrival airport.VHHH EGLL N0506F290 OCEA2A OCEAN V3 CONGA/N0495F330 V3 ENVAR/N0495F330 M750 MANEP Y753 JAKAL A1 ALBAT/N0485F350 A1 KEC OGASA MORAY/M083F350 34N150E 32N160E 33N170E 35N180E 36N170W 39N160W 43N150W 44N140W/M083F370 42N130W/N0477F370 VESPA C1486 ENI J143 PYE J88 ROBIE/N0487F390 J88 LAX J60 BLD J107 MLF J9 FFU J202 OCS J94 BFF OBH J10 IOW J60 PSB J78 MIP J146 JFK J225 PVD J55 BOS J575 YQY VIXUN LOGSU 49N050W 50N040W 52N030W 53N020W/N0467F390 MALOT/M083F390 UL9 BURAK/N0466F390 UL9 STU UP2 NUMPO Y3 NIGITBut is this all mumbo jumbo the route legs?Like:N0506F290OCEA2AOCEAN V3CONGA/N0495F330?

N0506F290 = airspeed 506 and FL290OCEA2A = OCEAN 2A departure from hong kongOCEAN V3 = this is the terminal transition from ocean to ENVAR via CONGACONGA/N0495F330 = this indicates a change in airspeed and/or flight level (you may also get something like 44N140W/M083F370 which means u are flying Mach .83 at FL370)I'm pretty sure thats what it is. Also when you said they ferried the 772LR from KBFI-HKG they only used 1200lbs are you sure you've got the right figure there?cheersPatrick

Not at all pointless. In itself the flight had maybe little value except for PR (which is highly valuable for any company in a competitive marketplace) but the stresstesting would have provided very valuable information to engineers about the long term structural integrity of the airframe and especially engines. As such the flight provides valuable data for further development both into other aircraft and possibly into improving the 772LR itself before it is delivered.

>From Boeing Field, KBFI>>>When you said they ferried it to Hong Kong using 1200lbs of>>fuel where was it ferried from?>>Thanks>>PatrickKBFI to VHHH with 1200 lb of fuel?? I think not!!Thats about enough to get from Macau to Hong Kong, a 10 minute hop!Cheershttp://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair.gif

Here's another interesting note after the flight record. The GE engine was estimated to burn 3 quarts of oil determined by GE techs. The woman test pilot excepted more than 3 quarts. The final result after landing and the prescribed cooldown time before checking the oil? Only ONE quart was burned for BOTH engines!

1200 Gallons still seems like a small amount from Boeing Field to Hong kong that could get you a 30 min flight if you are lucky. Perhaps 120,000 pounds maybe.Oliver
