Advice needed: How to replace the video card on FS2002

I need some advice on replacing the graphics card in my FS2002 PC. I am replacing a GeForce2 GTS with an Asus GeForce4 Ti4200 on a Windows 98SE system, and I am wondering:Should I switch Windows to its VGA video driver before shutting down to replace the card?Should I install the new video drivers when Windows starts and recognizes that there is new hardware, or should I bypass the startup screen and install the video drivers after Windows has loaded?Can I continue to use DirectX 8.1, and do I need to reinstall it?Should I install the Asus video drivers, or install drivers from the nVidia Web site?Are there any fs2002 configuration changes or video driver property changes that I need to be aware of? I will appreciate any advice from those of you who have already done this type of video card swap. Thanks,Robert Rent

Robert - I'd recommend removing the GF2 via Device Manager just before turning off the machine to install the new card. This will remove the GF2 drivers. When the box is rebooted after installing the 4200, Win98 will detect the new card and ask for the driver location. Just cancel all that and the VGA drivers will be installed by default. Once the boot completes then go ahead and install the drivers of your choice. I don't kow which driver version the Asus ships with but the 42.01's are working well on my 4200 here. Any set of drivers newer than 29.52 will be OK for a start. Finding the best match for your system is going to be a trial-and-error task. DX8.1 is fine and you shouldn't have to reinstall it. You'll have a new 4200 driver tab in Display Properties to play with for the settings. I think you'll like the card.Doug
