Differences in PSS nav data?

Recommended Posts

Guest Midnight LS1

When I downloaded the updates for the PSS 777 Nav data, I noticed two different file sizes. From http://www.planepath.com/html/pss.htmlthe file name is PSS_Procedures_0512.zipand the file size is only 719 KBBut from this website:http://www.navdata.at/php/airac/airac.php?...=0512&addon=PSSThe file name is: PSS_0512.zipand the file size is 5.57 MB which is bigger than the one from above. What could be the differences?I suspect that the PSS_0512.zip has more nav data than PSS_Procedures_0512.zip correct?

Open the navdata .dat files with notepad and you will see how much is in there. Runway info, VOR etc. The other is just sids and stars with a heavy leaning to US airfields. The only UK fields I could find were EGPF EGPH and EGSS (Glasgow, Edinburgh and London Stansted).Bill

Another option is to simply run the base installer and select the NAVDATA option.

That is not strictly true. The Navdata has Sids and Stars although their check-box has to be manually ticked to install them. The Terminal Procedure Sid/Star files are 6MB whereas the Navdata Sid/Star files are in excess of 21MB.
