777-200LR aircraft locks up totally when putting in cost index to cpu/fmc

how can i fix the problem of the whole aircraft just stopping, after i put in the cost index in the cpu/fmc..everything else works fine, but as soon as u put a figure into the cost index everything stops..Is there a fix to this..help would be appreciatedregardsandy
