Landing too fast

Recommended Posts

Hello,I have been using the PSS 777 2004 for little while. But while landing, it appears that I have a bit of a problem. Ok, so I'm on a standard approach and I'm resetting my MCP speed to a speed appropriate for landing (in this case, 187 IAS). Whenever I do this, the plane gives me all sorts of warnings, saying that I'm too slow. What it doesn't realize is that I am trying to land!! I think that the reason the plane thinks that I'm not about to land is because my flaps aren't set to 20 (as calculated by the CDU, just like the speed I mentioned above). In other words, I'm setting my MCP speed to 187 but I'm not setting my flaps to 20. So does the PSS 777 require flaps to be set to the calculation by CDU? The PMDG 737 does not. It lands anyway. That's why I'm asking. If it doesn't, what do you think the problem could be?The plane itself is beautiful and works well the rest of the time!Good Job PSS and Thanks!Sanjeev Mundluru

Sanjeev,Are you sure that the warning is not "... too LOW... FLAPS" which is what I would expect you to get if you had 187 kts set on app but only 10 flap extended.Extending the flaps to a proper landing config would eliminate the warnings I would think.I hope this helps,

Sorry, It appears that the error relates to my airspeed. I'll try extending my flaps to the calculation of 20- "a proper landing config" as you said. Thanks for the prompt response!Sanjeev Mundluru

I don't know all the exact flight dynamics of this aircraft, but I usually after some mishaps, apply some logic, i.e., this is a big heavy aircraft that can't turn on a dime, so when on approaches or entering holds, I will slow her down, maybe even to slightly less than the FMC states, that way I know it will follow the NAV path more easily.Ron
