Chrome/Messed Up Textures

Hey everyone,Ever since I installed NVIDIA's latest 41.09 drivers, (from the 38.XX drivers) I've had this issue where when I leave FS (in windowed mode) and have anything else, such as a folder, FS Flight Tracker, or FS Real Time, as the main window, when I return to FS, many of the textures are screwed up. For example (as in the picture below), the aircraft are all chrome, or have multi colored textures (I noticed it affects aircraft with Alpha channels more so). This affects trees and the scenery buildings in major cities and gives them that multicolored look. It also happens to certain ocean tiles. I have figured out a way to fix it temporarily by changing the Filtering level, however, as soon as I exit FS again, I have the same problems and must change the filtering settings once again (quite annoying!). It might have to do something with my video card not rendering FS when it isn't the primary program, though I'm not sure. Thanks for any help in advance. :-) Here are my specs:Intel P4 2.0ghz768mb RDRAMGeForce4 Ti4200 64mb-current settings: Aggressive Performance, 4X AA, Ansiotropic Filtering offHere is the picture:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/calnaction/error.jpg

Try this - zoom in on the bizarre plane until VERY close, and then zoom out again. Are the textures clear now? If so, it is due to the video card (or FS?) using the wrong mipmap of the texture (happens to me whether the mipmaps are in the texture itself or are FS generated). I don't know of a fix - I saw this with both the 27.45 and 40.72 drivers.I just do a quick zoom in and out or ignore it...Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't help. I've heard of instances before on the Project AI forum of this, and like I said before, it only goes away when you change the Filtering settings in FS, but comes back as soon as you switch away from FS. Any more help would be great!! :-) Thanks!-Cal

Hey.....I was shocked to see someone posting the identical problem I am having. This cropped up a few days ago when I started using the PSS dash8. Since that's all I've been flying lately, I assume its probably the culprit.......although I haven't tested with another airplane. The problem was rather funny actually when I landed at night and saw the default airwave in about 1 million colours.....LOL.In the day, some of the AI has only the chrome effect while others are ok.I went to the Options>Display>Aircraft tab.....and reduced aircraft textures to minimum and turned off reflections. I clicked OK, to get back to the Sim, then went back in again, turned textures to "Massive" and turned on Reflections...then clicked OK. When I got back to the sim this time, everything was ok. However, the problem crops up from time to time. Like I said, it only started happening when I started flying the PSS dash8. I am also noticing some crackling sounds and a decrease in frame rates when flying through the clouds in the 2D cockpit of the PSS dash8.I am long overdue for a complete reformat.......hopefully that will solve all my problems. If it helps, I am using the 40.72 drivers with a GF4 Ti4600.Lagaz.

When going from the 3x.xx to 4x.xx drivers it is imperative to not only run the uninstall program but also the `30.xx to 40.xx fix` from www.guru3d.com. The problem sonds like you still have legacy settings or superfluous files left over from previous driver installations.Just run the fix, reinstall the drivers and see if that fixes it.ChasW
